THE FUTURE WE WANT

It will be a great mistake if we do not allow the women in our community to share their voices with other women in Rio+20. Therefore my worldpulse sister, Titilope Akosa and myself, with express permission from my Worldpulse team, we decided to organise an interview with 70 women in Ibasa community, Lagos state where I work with women. Not surprisingly, more than 150 women turned up when they heard that their voices would be heard in Rio.
Ibasa is a community of about 10,000 inhabitants, it is just about 10 minutes drive from my house but they are cut off from our world because the only means of transportaion is by boat. We are glad to present a pictorial report of the event.
In Ibasaland, ther is no electricity for the past 6 years, there is no secondary, the only primary school is like a poultry, tehre is no health centre, there is no road, there is only 1 public toilet, 1 vehicle, there is no potable water, there is no waste disposal system and our sisters unanimously agreed that they need all these essential amenities in their future. Their future is now!

Amazing
Wow! What an amazing community mobilizing effort to bring the voices of the women of Ibasa community to the world stage! A lot can be done to raise the status of the community through improving the provision of basic needs. Thanks for raising awareness through your story and the photos, too.
Best wishes to you and your colleague Titilope
