Anti-rape and Self-Defense in Kenya

I'm proud to announce that Eway Entertainment & Foundation has solidified a partnership with Dolphin Anti-Rape & AIDS Outreach Organization. Anti-rape and Self-defense training began Thursday May 17th, and commenced through Friday the 18th and Saturday the 19th in the Kibera region. Dolphin staff and facilitators trained in an area divided into 13 villages, namely: Liani Saba, Raila Village, Lindi, Mashimoni, Katwekera, Kisumu Ndogo, Soweto East, Kianda, Kichinjio, Makina, Soweto West, and Kambi Muru.

Our team trained 6000 citizens in the whole of the Kibera slum, in collaboration with other umbrella organizations: Kesep with over 50 affiliates groups, YDF with over 20 affiliates, Edewes with over 30 affiliates, Koplwa with over 20 affiliates, Sacoden with over 30 affiliates, and Hakishep with over 50 affiliates. Each affiliate group has between 20 to 30 members each. Each trained participant has the option to become a Train-The-Trainer in Kenyan school-based programs.

Our volunteer researcher, Lynn Slaughter is developing an online resource platform for organizations interested in conducting training in other areas. We are also translating the workbooks into English, and developing a boys curriculum. It is an honor to be a part of something that will make a difference in the lives of many women, young girls, men, and boys.

To think that it was the PulseWire community that introduced me and my organization to the Dolphin is surreal. It is a blessing to be a part of a family that has opportunities to make the word a better place. What would have happened had I just left the page, or refused to interact? Back in January, I stated "action speaks louder than words". Although I don't retract the statement, I will add -it was the words of the strong members of this community that inspired me to act. It was the love and support of my family of women who motivated me to keep going. Now it is no longer a desire to make a difference. It's an action! It is my duty and responsibility. Thank you WP and PulseWire for helping me make a difference in the lives of others, and in mine. Merci!
