Thanks a lot for your concern and reply. Well, my experience with this activities has led me learning and share a lot with the victims, the communities and peoples in general in regard to this violation which is very rampant more especially in our local communities kisii, which practices a lot of Female Genital Mutilation/Cut which we are fighting very hard to see that we've atleast broken the jinx of traditional stereotypes.
Kindly, with my entry to this pulsewire kind of networking, i do hope that i shall be able to identify donors who can support these activities in form of finances. I however, wish to give a brief history of the organization that iam the chairlady so thatone may exactly understands with it is and stands for:-
The Stema Women Development Group is a registered, non-partisan and non-profit making local women’s human rights community-based organization. Stema Women Development Group works to promote and advance women human rights through working towards a society free from all forms of violence against women.
The organization was established in the year 2004 as a result of a workshop organized by Feredaration of women lawyers- Kenya chapter (FIDA) that sought to strengthen the networking capacities of women organizations and groups in Kenya. At this particular workshop, violence against women was identified as a serious women rights violation that needed concerted efforts to address. This saw the birth of Stema Women Development Group.
For the last 8 (eight) years, Stema Women Development Group has focused on the maxim of “breaking the silence on violence against women”. Since inception, Stema Women Development Group has continued to be instrumental in placing violence against women as a crime and a human rights violation in the public domain and has successfully spearheaded the campaign against the vice. The organization has moved to the next level and is currently addressing the root causes of violence against women by focusing on “breaking the cycle of violence against women”.
Stema Women Development Group is membership based and welcomes membership from individuals that are committed to the eradication of violence against women and the advancement of women’s human rights. The members play a crucial role in the implementation of program activities. And currently there are over 20 members and volunteers.
OUR GOALS:-Breaking the cycles of violence against women.
OUR VISION: - Having a just society that is free from all forms of discrimination against women.
OUR MISSION: - Is to ensure that women and girls are free from all forms of injustices based on gender, sex, class, ethnic origin, physical disability, and religious beliefs.
OUR CORE VALUES:-
Women Centred – putting women first,
Professionalism – professionalism in relationships and dealings with clients, ensuring client confidentiality and excellence,
Empowerment – empowering women, staff, the membership and stakeholders.
Integrity – conducting all business with utmost honest, integrity, transparency and accountability.
Teamwork – a firm belief in mutual respect for each individual and teamwork.
Learning organization – learning from experience and through innovation, always seeking to improve.
THE OVERALL OBJECTIVE: - Is to promote, protect and preserve the rights of the women and girls through training education workshop and awareness campaign.
We, however, wish to further describe the organization as an organization that works towards building the capacity of grass roots members to adopt proactive measures to prevent violence against women in their environment and develop local strategies to respond to incidences of violence against women. The organization equally does this through training education workshops, mentoring and technical backstopping for the communities to improve or change their skills, knowledge and attitude.
The program areas include:-
-Building capacity of local community based organizations and groups as advocates of anti-violence against women activities,
-Building structures and key service providing facilities that will empower service providers,
-Custodians of culture, youth, women and men to prevent and respond appropriately to violence against women,
-Building the capacity of community based organizations/groups to prevent and respond to appropriately to violence against women, and
-Enhancing the participation of women in governance.
Thus the other prominent forms of violence against women prevalent in the area include FGM and early and forced marriages and domestic violence. We, therefore, seek to build on the past achievements and develop the capacity of the local support groups in these areas to continue spearheading campaigns on violence against women within the community/ (ies).
Please if you do have something to pass-on, kindly do so without hesitation.
Thanks once again,
In kind regards,
Christine.
