Catherine Biira Promise is chairperson, Sexual Health Improvement Project (SHIP), has been blessed twice with scholarship where she dis her masters degree and is currently persuing her PhD in Germany. She went out to encourage girls to complete secondary education by giving motivation talks in the sub counties of Bughangairi and Bwambara in 2011. She pledged to pay school fees for the best performing girls in secondary school in the 2 sub counties. It was amazing that after 10 years 3 girls where able to excel in their examinations. The magic was 'role modeling' Girls had no one to look up to. They only saw their future in a marriage in the village. Catherine's dream is to see these girls take on leadership roles in their communities. Incidentally all the three girls want to study medicine in future. To date she is sponsoring three girls to complete advanced level of secondary education in St. Immaculate Heart High School in Nyakibaale in Rukungiri district in Uganda.

I so much appreciate and respect women who invest in educating girls. It is painful to spend but once someone weighs the outcome and the impact of their choices; not educating the girls OR educating, the answers are very different and one is totally perfect impact while the other is totally a disaster to the girl.

Wonderful job, Grace! It is inspiring to see the work this woman has done to empower young women. What Catherine Biira Promise said about disempowered girls becoming disempowed women really rings true and I'm so happy to see the three girls shown in the video working hard to become leaders in their community. I also really like the title of this assignment, and it's so fitting. Catherine Biira Promise passes on to others the teachings of her mother about the importance of girls' education...and the cycle of empowerment continues. A blessing indeed!

Indeed in educating a woman the family, the community and the country benefits, the adage goes " educate a woman educate a nation".
