Consider Entrepreneurship

As unemployment rises, young people the world over are doing all that they can to seek employment. Volunteerism, internships, professional courses, apprenticeships, mentorship and part-time posts are all explored. These efforts are also present in Barbados.

Young persons, including young women, also look to entrepreneurship and other revenue-generating projects as a way out of unemployment.

Wonderful work, Juliette! The piece is very inspiring, offering entrepreneurship as a powerful, direct solution to unemployment. The success stories of the women featured here offer models and career possibilities for unemployed women viewers in Barbados and beyond.
You found inspiring and confident woman, asked them great questions, then edited their interviews to convey their vision and story so succinctly and well! Thank you and keep up the fantastic work!

Exploring options

In this global economy, it is important to consider one's options. I wanted to highlight that because so many people do not seriously consider it an option. Best case you bring in your own income and have a life-long business. Worst case you have valuable skills to show off if a job opportunity came up. Win-Win.

A timely statement

Dear Juliette

Yes, waiting for that dream job may mean a young man or woman will lose his/her best time of the life just doing nothing but waiting. Self-employment, on the other hand can help one get out of that frustration and use all his/her talent to make a living.

I support you not as a VoF, but as a person who has tried this. Last year, I got too tired of working for others and decided to be on my own. Its been a long hard struggle, but at the end of the day I have no boss, none to steal my credits and I feel more freedom to cover any issue I like, write anything I want.

So, from my side, you get a high five!

Hi Five

Stella,

I as you can see most of my posts were about entrepreneurs. It is scary and can feel daunting but sometimes freelancing, self-employement or entrepreneurship is the only choice we have. It is partially my story in a quasi-way. Looking back over the years I always considered myself unemployed or a student. In actual fact the part-time jobs, voluntary positions, freelance gigs etc have all brought me to this place in my life.

I could not imagine just sitting and doing nothing, not applying for 101 things just to keep busy and build my network, experience and knowledge. Now I am in a position to see myself as a budding entrepreneur. I want to inspire others to make their own 'change.'

Thanks Stella. Please keep in touch.

Live Your Passion

Hi Juliette,
Well done on getting the message of entrepreneurship 'out there'. It is such an important subject and a great inspiration to people to get out of their 'comfort zone'. Your interviewees were so enthusiastic yet realistic about the difficulties of unemployment and how to overcome them. I know how difficult it was for you to capture such an important message in a very short space of time...but you managed to do it.

Congratulations, and keep up the great work of inspiring others to take the plunge and to 'Live Their Passion!'

Hi Juliette,

Your video was uplifting and encouraging, and you offered an alternative to sitting around waiting for a job offer. Good job!
