Using Technology for Feminist Action
Technology like other innovation can transform the way we do things and our lives. Can we address the issues we feel passionate about online, use social media and at the same time protect our security and privacy?
The FTX (Feminist Tech Exchange) took place in Turkey on the 18th of April 2012 prior to the start of the opening of the AWID (Association of Women in development). The FTX covered many diverse issues and was interractive. I came out of the meeting a bit more cautious about things I take for granted i.e. my mobile phone, pictures of my kids, password etc. We need to understand the technology to work with it. Also technology when used for social change can help break barriers amd provide gender justice.

At AWID? Connect with Leah!
Osai, are you at AWID? Connect with Leah, who is representing World Pulse at the forum. She just hosted a session on using technology for women's empowerment, and will be at the Support and Resource space of the Feminist ICT Hub tomorrow afternoon, explaining how to use ICT's and Pulse Wire to achieve empowerment and community leadership.
What are your concerns and ideas about technology?

Hello Bresse,
Yes, I am at AWID. I have connected with Leah. I was at the session organised by World Pulse where Leah was presenting. We are meeting again during the conference.
My concerns about technology is the security of our information and ourselves. It appears that there are many opportunties to engage with others online, through social media, mobile phones etc but less discussion or awareness about privacy and security when using these tools. The Feminist ICT hub has held many workshops on tess issues and I have learnt a lot. More details later.
Best wishes,
Osai

So glad you connected with Leah, and have learned a lot at the conference. When you have time, it'd be great if you could share what you learned with the community, in your journal or in Sharing Solutions. Take care!
Technology is a great tool for Feminist Action!
Thank you Osai for sharing this! It was great meeting at AWID. I missed out on FTX as I arrived hours late! However it was great to meet with Erica, Susan and other FTXers at the hub and share more.It was also great to meet FTX friends that we had made in Cape Town!
I will be looking out to read more from you. There is plenty to lean from you.
Cheers!
Love,
Leah.
