Celebrating Mothers and Daughters
Am posting another image of my artwork, entitled "Crystal Cave: Lost Mothers, Lost Daughters". The theme is mothers and daughters who have been separated through war, exploitation (brothels, slavery), careers, marriage into a distant family or clan, or illness, death, or strong personality clashes. All these women are seeking each other, to reconcile differences and find the love and nurturing of the ancient Mother-Daughter relationship. They go into a beautiful Crystal Cave, into the Earth, the Great Womb, that is also filled with light and flowing water, to find each other. The names of Demeter and Persephone and other goddesses are carved into the crystal. Mother and Infant, Mother and Maiden, Crone and adult daughter are all represented.
The painting is actually three paintings, 13 inches high, arranged like stage sets, one in front of the other. The front layers are cut open in places to reveal the layers behind them. It is based on the carousel book format common in children's books.
