Introducing the Goddess of the Year Awards Campaign

Once upon a time, in October 2008, a publication was born. The mission of that publication was to recognize the achievements of women of African descent and to honor their positive stories of success and perseverance. Afrikan Goddess Online has been interviewing and profiling women of African descent ever since. These women invest time, money and effort into their communities through worthy causes. Some of these causes educate underprivileged children, house abused women and children, build schools in local communities, speak against female genital mutilation, rape, and other abuses against humanity. Some speak out against war, and others fight so others can live more freely.

The publication has remained free to readers and relies mainly on private donations for its financial survival. Despite its financial limitations, Afrikan Goddess Online wants to reward one woman with a special recognition for her efforts and her selfless sacrifice to her community, next year (2012). The money we raise from this campaign will go towards funding the award. The award will be the first of its kind by an African-owned, African-run publication honoring African women and bringing attention to the positive work women are doing on the African continent and beyond.

This is a cause that is very dear to my heart and one that every woman of African descent, or women who care and are interested in the lives of women of African descent should care about too.
