DURBAN, SOUTH AFRICA (Commodity Online): The 17th Conference of Parties (COP) being organised by the United Nations Framework on Climate Change to be held here from November 28 to 9th December 9th, has not raised the expectations of those keen to see mitigation of climate change and thereby curb global emissions.

Its symbolic!

Dear Monica

You know, this pessimism over Durban summit is very symbolic. Its my first summit (one that means the world to me) and its already being dismissed as a dead event. In my life as a woman, situations like this prevails everywhere - when everything is dismissed as hopeless, worthless. And then, somehow I work through, hoping against hope and suddenly, hopes return, things change! I guess that's how it is with most of us - me, you, others.

So, I don't care what the pundits are saying. This is my earth. I own it. I am here, and I am never going to give up hope of making it a better place. We, women, are made of hope, not pessimism, right?

Much love!

I love you

I didn't read the article, just sent it on to you,......perhaps shouldn't have! You are so right. If we lose hope, we lose life. If we do not bring the light to dark places, they will forever remain dark - and that goes for other people's thinking and opinions as well.

We are made of hope and achievement. Of course I agree.

Please promise you'll let me know how things are when you get to Durban. I'm sick with longing for my country, I do pray that I shall have the means to go visiting one more time!

Love and hugs, Monica

Promise and prayer

I can understand and feel that longing. I miss my village home in the hilly remote part of India which I have not visited for years, for monetary and other reasons. People say its a dead country. But all my dreams are woven around that place. One day, one day I will rebuild into a beautiful place.

I will definitely update you on what I experience in Durban. Since I grew up, I have been dreaming of going to Africa. I saved my pennies and hunted old book markets to find out books on Africa. Those are my precious gems. To me Africa is the symbol of red earth, wide smiles, sufferings, pain, abuse, chain, freedom, a million fairy tales and so much more. Its close to what my village is like. And finally I am going to Africa, so what if its for a super-urban, super modern event? so what if I will stay in a swanky hotel? I can breathe the African air and the soil where people like Mandela were born. And you, Monica my friend.

I will also pray that god fullfills your wishes and takes you to your country not once, but many times. Hugs!

Easy to be heard

Dear Usha

In a very practical sense, we live in countries where half of the people are illiterate and other half is too political. If we don't speak in simple and straight manner, we will not be understood, right? So, better to be easy to understand than being poetic :)

Love and hugs!
