Video Discussion: More Than 100,000 Women Murdered with Fire in India Every Year
Dowry murders (the murder of young married women for dowry by their husbands and inlaws) have reached epidemic proportions in India today. And burning them to death in the kitchen is the most preferred method because it is the easiest to explain away (she was working in the kitchen!) The police does not investigate or even file a majority of the cases. So a team of 3 researchers for the medical journal Lancet worked hard to collate hospital records and testimonies of victims families and discovered that there are possibly more than 100,000 victims in India every year. Why are these crimes escalating -- here is an important video discussion by 3 prominent women, one of them a highly vocal Supreme Court lawyer in India. http://www.causes.com/sharings/1121230

These are terrible
These are terrible statistics. Your article made me wonder what crime women ever committed to have so many hardships no matter what culture, ethnicity or race they may belong to. In Zimbabwe there is a trend of domestic violence fuelled by men's perception that when they pay the bride price they buy the woman and do have rights to do with her as they please. In your case the woman not only pays to get a husband but gets killed for it because he wants to own the dowry without having to deal with her as excess baggage. This world has too many injustices against women but step by step we shall make them right.
