Women Project Nepal
My mission is to support the local, grass-roots initiatives of women and girls in Nepal.
I spent four months in Nepal, where my in-laws reside. I have fallen in love with the land, people and culture of Nepal. I know I will spend the rest of my life working with communities in Nepal, especially with women and children, and in the areas of women empowerment, literacy and education, health and sanitation, and environmental issues.
I have a project going here in the US, to support two organizations in Nepal, and I look forward to expanding my operations soon.
For now, I am importing bags from a cooperative named Chetana Women Skills Development Project, and then selling them here as a fundraiser for a literacy program and school for women and girls called Astha Women School.
These bags are high-quality fair-trade products that are beautifully hand woven, naturally died (from flowers, plants and spices), and support the livelihoods of women of CWSDP and the education of their children. The organization was started by a Nepali woman over 20 years ago.
The Astha Women School was established in 2007 in Gatthaghar Nepal, as an ongoing effort by a collective of hundreds of women. It's chief objective is to provide education to illiterate women and girls. The school is run by a talented and dedicated group of Nepali women.
I have been inspired by these women and it is my honor to support them in their missions and share their stories with the world.
