A Passion For Change

My passion for change in my community led me to explore many channels through different organisations I have been part of. My community, La in the capital city Accra, has high number of pregnant teenagers, single parents, young illegal drug users, poor sanitation, noise pollution, low literacy and several other social issues.
I tried to find ways of changing the situation in my community. However, poverty, low ICT knowledge and a general acceptance of these behaviours or problems as normal are the main barriers in putting a stop to them.
Recognizing the media as a tool for behaviour change sensitization and advocacy, I have with the help of Curious Minds, a young-people led media advocacy group, organised some outside broadcasting in the community. It brought the local radio station into the community so that community members can air their voices and concerns to both themselves and government. It serves as a medium of exchange between inhabitants themselves and government.
WorldPulse will be a great platform for the community to also gather themselves and have discussions on how they can better develop it. However, it means many people have to get access to internet and also learn basic computer or mobile functions so they can use it to assess and be part of other online communities.

Great vision

Thank you for sharing your story. I think it's wonderful what you are doing in your country. Using the radio as a means of connecting people in your community is powerful. I hope that WorldPulse and PulseWire will serve as tools to help you continue to reach your goals.

I speak for myself

The power of media to make the vision of 'i speak for myself' real is powerful, and a combination of internet and radio is even more powerful.

Great work you are doing, i look forward to you bringing your experiences to this platform to share with other who are looking for advocacy methods such as the one you use.

Keep on with the good work.
