Women Empowerment, Media

Women’s Empowerment has been based on the inability of women to access information, resources and contacts. The advantage that the new media offers women is the potential to access information and enable contacts and resources. Women bypass prejudice, discrimination, class and caste barriers through and by their access to media. The media community gives permission to women to pursue restitution by being supported practical and opening spaces for options and alternatives. Women moreover, do not need to be led or depended on others goodwill and this liberalisation ensure and escalates women’s ability to see a desired future. Women reaching out through social networking know that there will be persons to empathise and respond the experience of facing a similar situation that one would get a varied perspective of victims, family member, community and activist helping to make informed choices giving encouragement and energising women.

The essence of being connected to others who have similar experiences linked within a sense authenticity which is palpable in its response and reach. This new media promotes ways in which one finds persons speaking the same and a depth which makes us feel as “one”. A affirmation of understood and responded to by others strangely open possibilities for exploring avenues for one own ‘s growth and connectedness to the larger community. It brings life to a cross road of choices and a bird eye view of the future. This sheer abilities to be editor and publisher of one’s view point gives the necessary edge to be heard and the awesome knowledge of the view of the global responding to the local. Media transcends social barriers and boundaries and enables transformation becoming a reality. The anonymity of contact feasibility of trying different masks – names and one’s position on expressed content – allow the exploration of ideas and concepts. Having control over one’s privacy enables one to discover one’s individuality and to pace growth together with others, changes the women’s patterns of inclusion reach an impact.

Web 2.0 and women empowerment

Hi! I had the chance to run through your paper and just wanted to let you know how much I found it inspiring! You have defined in a few words most of the advantages that we can grab through the use of new media. I'd like to push your thoughts forward and ask you a few questions. For instance, what do you personnally plan to do in order to empower in your country (or elsewhere)? Is there any limit to the use of new media? Ans what about your personal experience/story with new media? Can you share a bit of your story with us? :)
Sorry for bothering you with all these, I'm just curious, forgive me if I annoy you!!

With friendship,
Ke from Madagascar

hi

Thanks for reading thru' my paper and for taking the time to respond. the people who really directly need empowerment are people living in little villages with no communication facilities. They are the one's who need to hear directly the good news of available resources they could access. Presently, we work thru' non government agencies and the sheer volume of their own agenda's sometimes blocks out information from reaching the community. personally i see myself preparing content for distribution in community based radio's and information center's. but the new media has still a long way to go before people would be able to access internet or join online support groups though this is a dire need. in one state in India they made it a government scheme to have television in every community center and this led to the spread of information. if internet becomes as easily available the limits of the new media is unimaginable. What is possible is to reach people thru' their mobile which reportedly has more comprehensive coverage. The challenge here would be text within 140 words!

Hello Rita

Greeting from Afar Rita,

Thank you for sharing your writing here on Pulse Wire. I responded very strongly to the way you framed some of the possibilities of Web 2.0, mainly the idea of helping women to seek their "desired future" and that this is a place where we can "feel as one". Each time I take the time to wander around Pulse Wire, that is what I always experience here, it is a place where we can and do "feel as one", and I thank you for reminding me of it yet again. I wish you all the best as you share your thoughts here,

Be Well,
Gretchen

desired future

so many women especially in India think that their fate is decided by previous lives and really need the support to move to a future in which they find joy.
Thank you, Gretchen.
