Introducing myself and my journal: My Writing

About Me:
I am a journalist from Sudan. I worked with an independent newspaper, Alayam, documenting human rights abuses, violation of press freedom and women's rights in the country. I am an asylum seeker in the United Kingdom, having fled Sudan in 2010 because I was abused by the security forces following my supposed violation of Sharīʿah Law. I was detained in 2008 simply for wearing trousers. I saw a lot of women from minority groups in Darfur and South Sudan when I was in custody. Most of them were not Muslim but they were unfairly detained and discriminated against under Islamic law.

I wanted to join Voices of Our Future to give them a voice and suggest ways to end their suffering.

My Passions:
Photography, writing

My Challenges:
Establishing myself as an international journalist

My Vision for the Future:
Peace and Justice

My Areas of Expertise:
Human Rights

Marhaban Abeer!

I am so excited to have you with us on this giant platform. I believe that you have come to the right place, that empowers you and your writings, communications and leadership skills!
Me too I am a Sudanese journalist living abroad. I was lucky to be one of the 2009 (pioneering year) females to be trained on citizen journalism and empowerment, and become a VOF correspondent.

To prepare yourself to the upcoming tough competition, start writing from now writing. When I describe the competition as tough, I mean each letter of this word. don't be discouraged! the experience deserved to be undergone! why don't you start by your own story of harassment for wearing pants and your life abroad as a refugee female journalist?
Let's keep in touch. Here is a link to my page:
