The World needs Women

I am excited to find a space like Pulsewire. I want to raise my voice, and the voices of women and young women, around the world so the truth can be told.

I work in womens rights and am passionate about changing the status quo. The world needs women...and we need the world.

I have just returned from AWID 2008, Cape Town where I shared in the conversations about the Power of Movements. This was a truly special event to participate in as I laughed and cried with sisters from around the world.

Pulsewire will be a creative and engaging space to hear from community women who can share global experiences and a global vision. I look forward to being part of the community.

I am very interested to hear about your learning at AWID! What track did you participate in? I have been learning about the video track though Leah. I am curious to learn more about that and the other tracks! I am living (or should I say learning) vicariously through other PulseWire members.

Have you joined the AWID group yet?

Nice to meet you!

Women's rights

Hi Sarah!

It's great to have an energetic voice like yours from Australia here on PulseWire. I am so envious of all of you who participated in AWID, but glad that I can learn about your experiences here. I'm glad that you were able to participate and that you gained so much from your experiences with the women there. You mentioned that you work in women's rights. What type of work do you do and what organizations are you involved with? I am interested to hear about women's rights issues and organizations in other parts of the world.

Hi Jade Yes, AWID was

Hi Jade

Yes, AWID was awesome so if you get the chance to go in two years time then jump at it.

I work for the World YWCA ( Young Womens Christian Association) in the Comms Department. I am based at the world headquarters in Geneva, but our associations are in 125 countries in the world. Check out for more info...but in a nutshell we do a lot of work on HIV an AIDS, violence against women and peace with justice.

And what about you Jade? What is your driving force?

Driving Force

Hi Sarah,

Yes, I have heard of the World YWCA and a bit about the work this organization does. I have a friend who works in the Alaskan office. I will look at the website to read more about the positive work that this important organization is doing to empower women to create social and economic change. How exciting to work for such a wonderful organization.

I am still struggling to harness my driving force and narrow my focus. Lately I have become concerned with human trafficking and just started volunteering for an organization called Not For Sale ( to start mapping slavery here in Oregon and eradicating it. I am excited to be a part of this process. While my life up to now hasn't been focussed around social issues, it is something that is quickly consuming my passions and time. Being a member here on PulseWire and communicating with such amazing women inspires me daily.
