Introducing myself and my journal: Living Large in Limbo

About Me:
Following a mid-life loss, I traveled to the Middle East to assist Iraqi and Palestinian refugees and am currently writing a book about my experiences. My dream is to bring to Americans voices we seldom hear: an Iraqi child who has known nothing but preparing for or recovering from war, a Palestinian mother trying to navigate a checkpoint in the West Bank, a woman whose entire family was murdered in a refugee camp in Beirut....

I'm an American woman who traveled to Iraq 5 weeks before the US-led invasion in 2003 and returned a few months later to find the people who had so deeply touched me. Since then, I have been writing, blogging and speaking about my experiences. I've addressed audiences from Congresswomen in the US Capitol to 5th graders learning about the pillars of Islam -- more than 400 audiences in 9 US states, Guam, the Philippines, Poland and Mexico.

Let me know if you'd like me to come to your community!

I blog at

My Passions:
I believe our struggles are human struggles and that we can connect with each other through empathy and sharing our resilience.

My Challenges:
I am technologically challenged! I would like to learn to structure my blog better, to take and upload video and to use Twitter and Facebook effectively.

My Vision for the Future:
Mutual respect and universal freedom of movement and speech

My Areas of Expertise:
Citizen journalism, interviewing, public relations, public speaking

Welcome Kelly

No worries Kelly!

We can put those social network tools together in no time at all. Just let me know when you are ready to start. Such tools come in handy, and are very useful in what we do.

Welcome, and peace!

Where do I start?

Thanks, Darren! I'm ready, but I don't know where to start...Hey, I live in Santa Monica, too! I split my time between SM and Mexico, and am heading back to the States next week. I've just joined this site. Are you involved?

Thanks for introducing yourself...So cool to meet an actual neighbor this way!

Involved, SM

Good to meet you!

Wow, great Kelly!

Yes, I am fairly-heavily involved with World Pulse and Pulse Wire!

Have you had the chance to look at the Voices of Our Future program here on WP? It's a great way to learn a few strategies for ethical social journalism, while making a difference in the world. I think there is still time to sign up to be chosen.

I would suggest starting with your Twitter and Facebook accounts, followed with Blogger. Perhaps a Wordpress would also be a good start. Just don't take on too much, as to not become complacent or negligent of your accounts, which I am sure will not be the case. One way to avoid this is by integrating all accounts into one home page. Example:

In the meantime, I am gonna look at PeacePATHFoundation, if you too would check out

Thanks Kelly!

Darren Bunton

I just joined this morning, so I could try out for the Voices program. I've set up FB and Twitter accounts, but I do nothing with them....Looking forward to your help!
