Welcome to the Listeners Group!

Warm greetings, everyone!

My name is Scott Beck, and I'm the Voices of Our Future program coordinator. Along with Emily and Rachael, we will be working closely together over the next few months. It is so exciting to see this group gathering together for the upcoming application! There are many new faces here, alongside some past volunteers, and even past VOF Correspondents. As with the applicants, we come from all over the world, with different backgrounds and experiences. Together, as Listeners, we will play a key role in helping review and select the next group of grassroots women leaders to go through the program.

The purpose of this group is to serve as a central place for exchanging program-related stories, best practices and challenges. Also, the VOF program team will use this group to share information and important updates. You can post your questions here, or share what excites you most about this opportunity. This is your group, so feel encouraged to step up and make your voice heard. If you've volunteered in the past, share your experiences with the group. If you're new to PulseWire, tell us a bit about what drew you in to the program.

Before the program starts in September, you have a few weeks to become more familiar with PulseWire, with your fellow listeners, and to connect with the applicants. You can visit the applicants in their group here: In just two weeks we already have more than 230 change leaders signed up, eager to start the process! We expect this number to keep growing and growing until the kick off on September 6th.

Thank you so much for your spirit of service and generosity that brought you here for this exciting adventure. I am delighted to have this opportunity to work with you, and look forward to getting to know you more!

In partnership,
Scott (mrbeckbeck)

Dear Mr. Scott Beck,

It is nice to know and to meet all of you here.

Let me introduce myself first, my name is Tari. I come from Indonesia. I just found this interesting group accidentally through one of mailing lists i joined. At the time when i opened the link, i feel so amazed since i knew that there are many people here who have the same interests in helping women over the world to speak up.

As a new comer i'm trying to be the fast learner to explore this nice website and being an active member as possible as i can. Anyway thank you for this opportunity.

Dear Scott and other friends,

Thanks for the warm welcome. Wonderful returning to the VOF programme - I enjoyed connecting, sharing and learning last year and hope for more again.

(Btw, Namaste is a typical Indian greeting. The utterance is usually accompanied by joining the palms together as in praying. It's supposed to convey respect, warmth and that we're all united in spirit).

Welcome back!

Hi Pushpa,

Great to see you again! I hope you've been well these past few months.

I'm looking forward to having your spirited participation in the program again!

Talk to you soon,

Listening Wholly

Howdy Folks!

I'm so looking forward to connecting with a global community of inspired people willing and ready to speak their truth. The United Statesian ecofeminist in me is ready to be wide eyed, challenged and uplifted with the stunningly revelatory words that may carry us through the gates of change. As a environmental artist, freelance coordinator and woman of the earth I can't wait to see what will grow out of this opportunity for interconnection and understanding.

Carpe Diem,

My name is Charlotte Le Masurier. I am fresh out of University and am beginning what I hope to be a life dedicated towards helping others, especially women. Before I can really help I wish to increase my knowledge of what the world is really like for women around the globe, thus why I wanted to get involved in this project - and thank you very much for giving me this opportunity to do just that.
I hope I can live up to all this role entails and I eagerly await reading my first stories from the wonderful people with their wonderful tales.

Thank you.

I have been a professor and most recently a homemaker working part-time teaching women's studies and anthropology. Now that my daughter is going to college (in five days!) I am looking forward to a new career in international development that focuses upon the empowerment of women and girls. I have so much to learn from all of you am very excited to read the stories of women from around the world. This is going to be awesome!

Hello from Romania!

Dear all,

Let me start by saying how happy I am to be part of this initiative and having the opportunity to connect with you all. My name is Diana Toda and currently live in Bucharest, Romania. I work for a US governmental agency promoting world peace and friendship through volunteering.

Having been exposed to working in an international environment for several years now I've had the opportunity to work and interact with people from the most diverse cultures and backgrounds. It is truly inspirational to see so many people willing to get together in this project to bring to life the voices of women in some of the most remote areas of the world. So..Thank you all!!

Hi everyone :)

I just relocated to Portland, OR after completing my Masters from the Monterey Institute of International Studies, in conflict resolution with a focus on women . I was excited to discover World Pulse, having worked previously for a women's perspective online publication. I truly believe that media can have a beneficial impact on helping to empower women in regions that do not prioritize women's rights and their voice in general. It is also crucial that these voices carry to all regions of the globe, helping to inform and affect others in a positive way. I am passionate about working on projects that do just that and am very happy to be apart of this community. I look forward to communicating with all of you in the near future.

I am so excited to be apart of this group. I'm ready to learn and to help bring women's stories to the forefront. The best part is that World Pulse does not operate in a box but that it operates for women all over the world. To have an opportunity to impact someone in my country or another while sitting at home is FANTASTIC!!! Thank you so much for this opportunity to be a listener.

Happy Accident

My name is Karen and I live in New York City.

Being a part of World Pulse, as a Listener, has been one giant happy accident!

One day in July I was early (unheard of) for my Yoga class on 26th Street and happened upon a World Pulse Magazine to read while I waited. My heart pounded with solidarity as I read the words and heard the hearts of my sisters from around the world.

I am happy to step into a powerful world-wide current flowing from the hearts, minds and words of Women, united.

I am grateful for the opportunity to participate in such a great work of justice for Women and for all humanity.

Happy Listening, fellow Listeners!

That's a wonderful story Karen!

Everyone comes to World Pulse through different channels, but we're all united around the mission to lift and unite women's voices! I'm so thankful that you're here with us.

Virtual Connections

Hello Everyone,

My name is Claire, and I'm back in Portland, Oregon after spending a year in Berlin, Germany and the summer in Turkey. I'm delighted to see such a diversity of voices and experiences among the Listeners' group and look forward to our work together.

This is my first time as a Listener, and it directly connects to my interests in online community building and effectively using the media to promote cross-cultural understanding. I'm excited about World Pulse's particular focus on women's voices and its ability to reach out beyond cultural, linguistic and national borders to help people share and exchange stories and perspectives on the world.

I look forward to the connections we'll make during the course of this program! Thank you for the opportunity to participate.

Best wishes,

Scott, Rachael - Nice to see your lovely faces again!
Emily and All the Listeners - Looking forward to meeting you, too.

I'm Jenn. I was a listener last year, and knew I wanted to join the gang again this year. It's an extraordinary program filled with truly inspirational women and incredibly moving stories.

Can't wait to see where #VOF2011 takes us. Should we make that the official Twitter hashtag? Thinking once the applicant's stories are posted we could tweet them. Can we do that? Or did I speak out of turn and not really read the "contract" close enough? I don't want to sharing enthusiasm if I'm speaking out of turn.

Love it!

Hi again Jenn!

I think that the official #hashtag is a great idea! You can definitely spread the word far and wide, that's the beauty of new media. Great suggestion.

Looking forward to connecting more next week, and getting the application rolling in 12 days!

Hello (Wat A Gwaan?)

Greetings Fellow Listeners. I am Tawjna (Taj) from Jamaica. I like to engage new experiences even if they cause my heart to race out of my chest. I also like challenges. It is in those times I am most creative. I think this journey is a right combination of both.

As for the subject line "Wat a gwaan?" It is the Jamaican colloquial for "What's happening?" or simply asking "How are you?" It is one of the many ways in which we greet each other.

See you around.

Warm Regards.

A month ago I had not even heard of World Pules...I walked into my local health food store in New York City...not sure why I went there in the first place...and there on the rack that beautiful picture of the Indian sister on the cover caught my eyes. I read the founder's page and felt that this magazine was written for was just what I was looking for. I have not been able to get world pulse out of my system since..

My name is Azaria, I am passionate about empowering women and girls, and knew that I wanted to be part of this experience. I look forward to being a witness to these powerful women as the take flight..
