Connecting women using ICTs

Women in the past were never given the opportunity to venture into technology which created a huge digital divide, but in the 21st century women are taking huge strides and are connecting more online and using media and communication strategies to reach more women.

My idea is that since not all women are connected to the internet because of the cost of access and bandwidth limitations, pulsewire could use sms technology to connect women, so that even those with no WAP enabled phones can still get stories on their phones.

The sms technology can allow women that have phones to get not just stories sent by phone but also when a member posts a story/article on the site, they can receive those too.

Great idea!

WELCOME to PulseWire!

What a great idea. In fact, in 2009 we plan to focus on improving our mobile interface and SMS capability. In the meantime, did you know you can instantly post entries to your personal journal using a mobile phone? Just follow the simple instructions below:

First, enter your mobile phone number in your member profile.

Then, send your text messages to this number: +44 762.480.5709***

Curiously, do you currently send text updates to other sites?

In partnership,
Jennifer

***This is a UK number. Standard text messaging rates to the United Kingdom apply. PulseWire does not charge an additional service fee.

SMS Technology

That's such a great idea! SMS technology is definitely exciting! Are you familiar with the organization called Ushahidi (http://www.ushahidi.com)? They recently released a website (http://drc.ushahidi.com) that offers grassroots reporting in combination with mainstream news reporting and maps to relay information about the current situation in the Democratic Republic of Congo. I think sms technology can help ease the digital divide since more people have access to cell phones than computers.

We have so few mobile posts here on PulseWire. I would love for you to try it our and tell us about your experience!

Best wishes,

Lisa
