Welcome to the Voices of Our Future 2011 Applicants Group!
Your voice is important to us and we are so excited to see women from around the globe joining our group. Even though there are only 30 spaces in the full, five-month long program starting this November, we value all the efforts you will put into the application process.
You are part of a the gathering force of women who are using their voices to change the world, one person, one community and one nation at a time. World Pulse is here because we believe women will transform our world--YOU are the change leaders who will ensure a more just and peaceful future. By providing you with tools and knowledge in new media and citizen journalism through Voices of Our Future, we hope you will drive global conversations.
Starting on September 6th, you will receive a link to our Application Classroom where you will receive four, weekly sets of learning materials introducing you to the concepts of women and media, new media and citizen journalism, and the World Pulse voice. You will then be asked to complete a short writing assignment and post this to your PulseWire journal. These assignments will be our view into your world, your voice and your vision for the future. During this process, don't hesitate to ask your fellow applicants for help! Post questions in this group, ask for feedback on drafts and connect with one another!
Our staff are also here to assist you with questions you may have. Here is a short introduction to staff:
Rachael Maddock-Hughes, Program Manager for Voices of Our Future: I have been working with World Pulse since December 2009. I have 9 years experience in the humanitarian aid and international community development sector. Prior to World Pulse, I worked in Burma, Thailand, Afghanistan, and India. I bring my passion for gender and development and community centered solutions to World Pulse.
Scott Beck, Program Coordinator for Voices of Our Future: Scott has been working with World Pulse since September 2008. He was key in supporting the inaugural year of Voices of Our Future 2009. Before joining World Pulse, he worked in Nicaragua and Namibia on community development projects. He brings his passion and enthusiasm to help promote women's voices to our team.
Emily Garcia, Volunteer for Voices of Our Future: Emily has volunteered for World Pulse off and on since 2009. She recently returned from a year of studying in Germany, South Africa and India, and is currently working on finishing her Master's thesis project in Women and the Media.
Please don't hesitate to post your questions to the group journal. Our staff will reply as soon as we can.
With gratitude,
Rachael

This sounds like the perfect
This sounds like the perfect opportunity, at a time when I am trying to document the many civil wars within India. As an independent journalist who has to find ways to get the word about state-sponsored violence out in the world, my blog acts as an important conduit. Yet, its reach is limited. Being the Voice of the Future correspondent will provide me the key tools to reach out to a wider audience with new and more effective means.
At the same time, conducting writing workshops with tribal youth who are shy and afraid to express themselves will enable me to better these workshops, and get them to be confident writers, and thus write their own story. This opportunity gives me a large bucket of hope!

About time...been waiting for a year now
I missed out on the opportunity last year and have been itching all year waiting to see the notification in my e-mail inbox. Never was I so happy to see it! I feel I can learn a lot from what is offered on this programme and watching how the 2010 correspondents progressed was additional inspiration. There is so much going on in the world and it is difficult sometimes to find means that are tailor-made especially for women, to give them a voice and a platform to share among each other as peers. I love what I do and am constantly looking for new outlets, which is what Voices of the Future represents right now for me. Here's hoping I make it! *fingers crossed*

At first apprehensive as to
At first apprehensive as to what pulse is did it mean the usual body pulse, wondered who gave my email to pulse, deleted so many messages from pulse with a comment my pulse is well, good me I now know there is a different pulse for women that is helping women world over. What about this silent observer that is deaf, she is a woman but locked out due to communication barrier, hope pulse will have to involve deaf women more and more by granting them opportunities by listening to their views and not seeing their disability. Empower them to develop too.

for the sake of Gender SHE
Hi, to all PULSE GROUP community. I first came in contact with this Group through Ms Rita Bannerjee, 50MILLIONMISSING, Blog Post. Womens are always facing the apathetic behaviour of all countries, especially Asian countries, where we are grown up by feeling a difference between Men and Women. The crime with the Girls and Womens are at its utmost and towards rising trends inspite of being more and more civilized. The situations of women are alike everywhere, except few exceptions. This is also truth that young generations are much aware in comparison to the old ones, that too due to the Media and Information Technology Era.
Today, the crimes against womens are comes in public due to the hard work of media groups like PULSES and OTHERS. Free Media, Freedom to Press and Freedom to Expressions are seen on vide platforms in National as well as International perspective. Being regularly in touch with 50MILLIONMISSING Campaign and fighting as freelance journalist through gender bytes, causes and by article writings, representing with women group of India through Independent UK correspondent i was the only person who got interviewed in the fight to the Indian Government for against the dilution of Indian Women's Act 498A, IPC through Parliament Committee. The Indian Penal Code Section 498A is the only Act which empowers women specially married women's by tortures and cruelties of husband and his family upto to some extent. I lodged my counter to the chairman to be heard as a party in hearing. I remain in touch with various Women's Welfare Groups throughout India, spread the news to all groups, time to time. Only since then due to the opposition from all the corners, this dilution either postponed or delayed.
I will feel a proud citizen to be the part of PULSE -- A platform for Women's all over World in any manner.
Please accept my good wishes for the success of PULSE...

EVERY WOMAN COUNTS IN HEALTH AND SICKNESS
Hello everyone,
Being a nurse is a noble profession, yet challenging. When do I get the time to write? I have seen it and heard it all from the crying souls of women in labour, giving life and yet the givers of life ,do not live to see the fruits of their labor. Some will die, some will be victims of violence.I truly need to write to the world, this is my much awaited dream for a long time.
Being a nurse journalist will give me the mileage to mentor other nurses especially in the hard to reach areas,to report their experiences and finally inform the policy makers, the government that every woman counts and equity is the mother of the road to health.I work in a very volatile field and informing decision makers about reproductive health is a huge debate.During my country,s referendum for the new constitution 2010,women at grassroot level did not get the chance to internalise about the Bill of Rights, and as I continue to inform nurses and the community about their rights,I feel always that these efforts will be heard by the power of writing, interacting with other women and moving the agenda of fairness in health services including sexual and reproductive health across lifespan.
I now know my campaign to inform the youth on cervical cancer in slums will be successful.PULSE WIRE has come at the right time and I cant wait to join.
With Warmest Regards.

POSITIVE INFORMATION MOTIVATES
Being a woman, a mother and a wife comes with a lot of challenges. I work with young women in the rural areas of Western and Nyanza Region in kenya some of whom have become young mothers at a tender age due to life's circumstances. My daily job is to motivate and encourage them that this is not the end of life and they need to work hard towards becoming economically independent and socially responsible in the society.
This project has seen many young women who had otherwise lost hope bounce back again and start income generating activities. It has also seen young women join other leadership avenues e.g. in school committees, community groups and political leadership.
The chance to become a voice of the future will enable me rich more women and tell their stories to the world to encourage other young women in similiar situations. Thanks to pulsewire for this interesting opportunity!

Women have always been the pilots behind the corkpit doors
I am very blessed to have this wonderfull opportunity. Being a single parent, a leader of Shekinah Glory, which is a group of women who have seen that women have no access to any financial loans in our country because we don't have collateral, since it's usually in the husbund's name and also being the fouder of Africa Network Empowerment, i am faced with a lot of challenges .
My task in Shekinah Glory is to instill self sustanance in women and the youth.you may wonder why i mentioned the youth, as a single parent, i never leave my twins out of any decisions that i may make in my life and i expect every woman to do the same too. My duty is to seek for opportunites, instill love and interdependancy amongst members of the group. The group which now has a membership of 20 women is in a process of applying for interest and collateral free loans for women.so that they can start their projects ,which will not only change their lives ,but create employment for the people in their surrounding communities.
Africa Network Empowerment.is the best thing that i have ever done in my whole life. This project"s first product is the Prosperity booster, which boosts up the lives of low income earners through network marketing.
This oppoetunity to be a voice of the future, will enable me to encourage women toto bring about CHANGE in their lives without relying on donations alone.
Ladies we have been flying the "World aeroplane" with the passangers thinking that it's a male pilot when actual it is us women doing the job.It is now time for the passangers to meet thei pilot and know HER and THANK HER for hwat she has done to the WORLD.
The Economy of the world would never be the same if women had not been there.
Best regards ladies,

Exciting opportunity
Hi All, I am very happy and a bit scary. Reason being, in my heart I fully support the move and wish to contribute a lot but I have no experience working in this field. I am from technical background and once I was surfing about womens' group so came across this site. The same day I became the member of this site and started reading the mails. I read about the contribution through this website, feel good, and always want to share something. With lot of courage I have become a member of this group and look forward to contribute in this forum through your help and support. Thanks and best wishes to all.
You don't have to have
You don't have to have experience in this field to participate! Many people are just learning about new media, citizen journalism and women's empowerment. It just takes passion, interest and hard work!

Delightful!
Hi, I'm really interested in applying for this wonderful opportunity! I have bit of an issue however; I won't be turning 16 until the end of September...do you think I could just mark 16 on the applicant questionare since if I did end up getting into the program, I would be 16 by the time it actually started? I really hope so! I'm in love with the art of writing, and using it in this avenue to express and address the issues of our world is brilliant! It would be such an amazing experience over all!

QUESTION
Hello from Honiara, Solomon Islands!
I've joined the 2011 VOF Applicants Group and completed the required survey but I am still somewhat unsure if I have been accepted as an applicant. I apologise if I seem daft but I was expecting something in a form of a notification that my application has been received and rejected, or it has been received and I'm in.
I'm a radio news reporter and current affairs producer but I have no experience in social media or blogging or anything of this area. I've been covering women and gender issues in my country for the last three years but somehow, I feel like I am just not doing enough. I've always thought of blogging about our gender issues and putting up audio interviews in the hope to raise greater awareness and action of these issues amongst Solomon Islanders but have always held back because of what I do not know about blogging and all these other social media aspects.
I 'stumbled' across the World Pulse site while researching on the internet and signed up to be a member almost immediately. I visit the site almost every other day and I am always overwhelmed and inspired by the many stories from World Pulse members and always leave the site feeling I should be doing something like this if I want to make a difference in our part of the world.
But I digress from the purpose of my post and I hope to hear from someone about my question soon.
Tagio tumas (Thank you!!!)
