City of Joy - Healing and Empowerment for Rape Victims of DRC
My art blog is themed "art as social commentary" and this week's post features my latest art work, "Congo Strength." This piece is in tribute to the thousands of women and girls raped in the Congo. My post also talks about Eve Ensler's work in Bukava, DRC to establish a facility and community, "City of Joy", for victims of sexual violence, giving an opportunity for rebuilding their lives, as well developing leadership skills. These women will eventually returned to their own communities to lead others in recovery.
City of Joy, through the determination of women's advocate Eve Ensler has been facilitated and funded by V-Day.org, and UNICEF. The women of the Congo built and own City of Joy. Read more at my blog: http://bonniesamuelartist.com/blog/

Thanks very much, Carrie. Women worldwide are taking action and bringing about positive change. The story of the women in the DRC pulls at my heart - I will probably do some other art pieces themed on the African women's movement.
