We are what we do not what we say!

On Friday morning, 10th June 2011, a beautifully organized meeting was held at Omar Samatar Secondary School’s conference hall. More than 1500 youth plus Government officials, Business community, Doctors, Intellectuals, Diaspora and Religious leaders were present in the meeting. Mainly the meeting was part of continues meeting held in Galkaio since April 2011 after the political reform in Mudug region.

Efforts to engage the collaboration of the newly nominated administration and the community were taking place for the past couple of weeks. Several meetings between the local administration and the different sectors of the society in Galkaio took place ever since the new administration’s arrival.

Yesterday’s meeting was a remarkable one. I had never witnessed such meeting between youth and administration. Before, I used to hear there was a meeting between the administration and the religious leaders, or the intellectuals, or women groups, or business community and so on, but it has never happened such a meeting and it will be a memorable one.

I am really honored to be part of this remarkable change. Addressing to 1500+ youth and also government officials was really unforgettable moments of my life. Hearing all those promises from the government and also from the youth is incredibly a life changing moments.

This new administration is none like the previous administrations. It already started repairing the streets in the city, collaborating with the society, organizing meetings and trying to fulfill the community’s desires. In the meeting, the Governor announced that the local administration is going to open an account for education in Mudug region. The local administration will allocate $1000 each month whereby other members of the society will donate $1 per month. This money is allocated for sponsoring at least the top ten students after they graduate from high schools in Mudug region so that they join universities to further their studies. This isn’t the only account that was opened for the region’s development and sustainability. There was another account that was opened earlier where people contributed the amount of money they can donate in order to main the security and sustainability of Mudug region.

The youth has voluntarily promised to give unconditional collaboration to the administration, to create unity between the youth themselves and also between the youth and other parts of the society, to work on the hygiene and sanitation of the region and to participate in the region’s sustainability and development.

Furthermore, I have been collaborating with a committee that voluntarily organized themselves to engage between the administration and the other sectors of the societyin order to achieve real change. I have also been selected as one of the General Assembly of Puntland University of Science and Technology. I also organized a networking between young girls at my city to have collaboration, help one another, meet regularly and share info.

I know I haven’t written for quite sometime but that doesn’t mean I was passive! I will update you later how all these incredible changes take place God’s willing.
