Voiceless Children Education Fund

Education Fund: Seven years ago I had no idea that one day, with the help of photography, hard work, and persuasion, orphan kids and their grandmother care givers would be given voices they never had. Showing their struggles and their determination through film and photography enabled Voiceless Children, an NGO I co-founded after quitting my job at a local daily newspaper, to raise funds to provide education and shelter for families in Western Kenya and Nairobi’s largest slum. Today we have 20 students enrolled in high school and 22 already graduated. One is in university, and one is educating others at a rural primary school after graduating from a teacher’s college last year.

After covering politicians, scandals, models, and upcoming Kenyan talent, I decided I wanted to give back to society, I wanted to touch the lives of struggling children and women. As a photojournalist, I knew the power of an image. Images of the struggle and the hope helped raised funds to support these families. While we are still struggling to continue to educate, shelter, and empower these families, we can also see the fruit of our labors. The images you see here share the voices of these grateful people, still hopeful that the world will recognize their struggles and continue to share their blessing with them.

“One’s personal story demonstrates that strength is built through struggle and hardship, personal experiences drive one to touch lives of countless others who have had to confront their own challenges”.
