Was it war that left my homeland in shambles????
I had just landed from Bangalore and Imphal, the capital of Manipur looked no diffrent from Bangalore till the time I was inside the airport premises. The difference struck me when dad drove me home and we crossed the main of Imphal. The buildings were grey in clolor and they looked sad and forlorn. The roads had deep gorges and pits in the middile of the street and I thought that some construction must have been going on till the time I noticed the same till we reached my home which was a good 10 kms drive. Something was screaming out to me from these inanimate things around me. My state was in shambles. It looked as if war had been the cause, Bombers had devastated the buidlings and the remains wer still lying about. The people who were poor looked as if they could hardly meet their needs. The lack of basic amenities as drinking water and electric supply showed the system had collapsed around us. It was as if I was walking in the streets of Srinagar.
Manipur has fought from insurgency/militancy for decades now. There are innumerable factions of underground militants all with a unique mandate and agenda. We cannot disregards their pleas of help. They certainly have a reason to lift arms. the evidence is right here in front of me. For someone who lives in Bangalore enjoying prosperity, safety, employment, safe future and education I am convinced this war liek devastation is because of a deeper reason- whatever it may be. I am not here to discuss the reason I am here to ponder about how my state bleeds when the rest of the world is walking past.
Before I pack my bags to leave for Bangalore again, I say a silent prayer for a peaceful prosperous Manipur and let it come from young enterpreneurs of Manipur who are the hope for us, for me and for everybody.
