My Miracle

How do we define miracle? There might be thousands of answers of this question. But to me miracle is an event that can change one’s life vastly. The miracle of my life was got admitted into Asian University for Women. How can getting into a university be a miracle? Well, to answer this question, let me first tell you the environment I grew up and my background.
I am from a small village of Bangladesh where almost half of the people are uneducated. But I am lucky enough to have an educated family. I successfully completed my primary, high school and college education. By the time I got into the University of Dhaka in the beginning of 2009, most of my friends who were girls from school and college have been married off. None of them could say anything against their parent’s decision. My passion of reading and my dreams of helping the women like my friends and my parent’s inspiration helped me to reach this point. Though I got into the most popular university of Bangladesh, I was just a typical girl who used to think what is right and what is wrong, but did not have enough confidence in herself to speak out in front of the thousands people. Before August 2009, I was just a girl who used to dream about helping her community but did not know how.
Then the miracle happened. I got admitted into the Asian University for Women and started my new journey. Here I met some people as they were my teachers in the first year of university who I think are the best people of the world. They helped me to explore and know myself. They inspired me to express my thought and ideas, and AUW has been given me the chance to practice what I have learned from them. Now, in the beginning of 2011, I am a young woman with a strong voice who won't hesitate to speak up for the righteousness, truth and justice. Now I know what I should do to fulfill my dreams and how should I prepare myself to meet the future challenges. And I am doing that effectively. I read a lot to know more about the world and myself; and I write to express what I think about them.

You are an inspiration! Thank you for sharing this story about the beauty of education-- it is so important for women (and everyone) despite their background to pursue higher education, and I am amazed that you did so and succeeded, considering where you grew up. I commend you for pursuing knowledge on your own. Education is the best tool to give you confidence and power!

Thank you for sharing your inspirational story. :]
