Introducing myself and my journal
About Me:
I am 25 years old and recently graduated for my M.A. in Gender and Women's Studies of the University of Wisconsin-Madison. I was adopted from Sri Lanka, was raised in The Netherlands, and now live in the United States. I have a B.A. in Communication Arts (Theater, Film and Television Studies) from the University of Utrecht in The Netherlands, have worked as a teacher at a Dutch middle and high school, and have been a teaching assistant for a university-level women's health class at UW-Madison.
I currently work as Young Women's Outreach Coordinator and Project Assistant with the Wisconsin Women's Network.
My main passions are women's human rights (including reproductive justice, gender & development, violence against women, and women's global health), outreach to young women and other marginalized groups, education, international adoption, and documentary film. I would love to get in touch with others working in these areas! I invite you to participate in our UN Women Action Blogging Campaign. World Pulse is asking women worldwide: What is YOUR vision and recommendation for UN Women?
We invite you to raise your voice by writing a letter to UN Women Executive Director Michelle Bachelet outlining your recommendation for how this new UN agency can truly affect change on the ground to promote gender equality and uphold the rights and needs of women both on a local and global scale. What should their priorities be? What are the real issues you and women in your community face on the ground? What is your hope for what UN Women can accomplish in the coming years?
