Greetings ---

Soooo looking forward to our journey to Africa and to meeting all of you. Thanks for news on the phone call.

I checked into the travel insurance agencies listed on the WP site. World Nomad will only cover a trip up to $5k. STA Travel covers people age 35 and younger. Just wondering if anybody has found travel insurance policies that are good and competitively priced?

On the vaccination front, just noted Cholera on the list. I missed that last time I checked.

Onward :)

Thanks,
Maura

About insurance...

Hi Maura! Saw your comment about this. Thanks for doing that research. Since time is short, I'd consider going with http://www.csatravelprotection.com/

I haven't used them personally but I know they come strongly recommended by other high-end tour operators that I know. Hope that helps!

I appreciate all your work for this trip and answering my many questions about travel insurance (!!!)
I ended up going with TravelGuard as they also come highly recommended.

TIME ZONES

Hey I love this link that helps me figure out what time zone everyone is in! (West Coast, East Coast, UK, Kenya, India....) Gets confusing to make these calls without it:

Remaining questions

Hi Ila,

Please forgive me if I somehow missed the answers to these in other posts. I'm wondering:

• How long do you expect the visa process to take in Nairobi?
• Will we get your personal welcome in Nairobi regardless of how late in the night/ early in the morning we arrive?
• Are there facilities or services readily available for washing our clothes where we'll be staying in Nairobi?
• Could you give a little more detail on why you recommend not bringing our laptops?
• And just to confirm, in your experience, will I be able to pass into Rwanda without the yellow fever vaccination but with a medical explanation for why I don’t have it?

Also, have you heard anything about the costs for extra time before and after? Should I assume that my reservations are confirmed?

Thanks so much! Having been on the coordinating end of many international service-learning experiences for groups of university students, I know how much work it takes to handle all of these logistics... it sure feels good to be taken care of:)

Cheers,
Seana

Answers to your questions about WP trip

• How long do you expect the visa process to take in Nairobi?

I can't say for sure, but just know that most guests are doing their visas on arrival, so bring your patience, and I don't imagine it will add more than an hour to the arrival process. Remember to bring US dollars cash to pay for it, make sure your passport is valid for at least 6 months beyond dates of travel, and bring extra passport size photos just in case.

• Will we get your personal welcome in Nairobi regardless of how late in the night/ early in the morning we arrive?

YES. Our Tour operators, EOS visions, will be there with signs with your name to pick you up. They will have your flight info, so no worries!

• Are there facilities or services readily available for washing our clothes where we'll be staying in Nairobi?

We are staying at quality Western style hotels that will have laundry services.

• Could you give a little more detail on why you recommend not bringing our laptops?

This choice is in your hands. If you absolutely must or want to bring it, and the slight inconvenience and precaustion is worth it for the ability to get online on your own machine, please do so! You will need to take extra precautions when walking the streets of Nairobi or Kigali as theft can be an issue. And security at airports can take a bit longer of course. Hotels will have WIFI though there may be an extra fee to use it from your room (this fee will be your responsibility), and you should be aware that connectivity speed and even electricity is not the same standard as in the US.

• And just to confirm, in your experience, will I be able to pass into Rwanda without the yellow fever vaccination but with a medical explanation for why I don’t have it?

I can't guarantee anything about this, but I do know that it is highly unlikely you will be asked for any evidence of vaccination. In the rare case that you are asked for this evidence, it would be in the hands of the security person whether or not they would accept a medical explanation. Sorry I can't say more about the risk. For the worst case scenario that you are not allowed into Rwanda, this is why it's so important that you purchase good travel insurance to cover any changes to your trip.

Also, have you heard anything about the costs for extra time before and after? Should I assume that my reservations are confirmed?

Our tour operators are aware of all early arrivers, and I will have pricing information for you very soon. Sorry for the delay on that!

THANKS, SEANA!!
