Groups, Postings, and Access
Hello Ankur and Corine,
How do the Groups function? Specifically, if a Group has an "open" status but has a journal banner that says, "no public postings..." does this literally mean that there are no posts whatsoever, or does it mean there are (or may be) private postings within the group?
I am asking because at our OLCM meeting two of us clearly believed that "friending" and "grouping" was something we wished to do with intention and commitment. To support this view, we wanted more information (to read more posts) about what was happening inside some of the "open" groups before we join.
I also noted that there are closed, invite-only, and moderated groups. What do these mean?
Thanks for you help, fondly, Dave...

Groups De-mystified
Hi Dave,
Great questions!
When you see "Group Membership Setting: Open" and you click on "See All Journal Entries," you will get a message that says:
"No public posts in this group. Consider joining this group in order to view its posts."
This means that no one has contributed a post to this group yet. At this time all posts are public. So, join a group and be the first to post!!
There are 4 types of membership for a group. This is decided by the group administrator when the group is created. It can also be edited later on.
Membership Types:
1. OPEN - all members can join
2. MODERATED - all members can request to join, but the group administrator must approve their request
3. INVITE ONLY - only members the group administrator has invited to the group can join
4. CLOSED - membership requests are fully administered by an administrator
I hope this helps to clear up any confusion!
Thanks for Clarifying
Hello Lisa,
Thank you for clarifying this, and posting it here. It is a big help to know that all posts are presently public and that so many of them are seedlings.
