ME STILL LESS WISER
thinking…hoping that may be now
you will fly lower
low enough, to be within my reach
clipped they were
those royal rainbow shaded feathers
normal height you will fly my little bird
or perch since you fly no more my bird
me thought you wiser
me now see me still less wiser
having forgotten you to be mortal
as I marveled at these your fine feathers
and endured your look, that look,
the one that made me small from up there
where you perched and flapped your proud wings
and saw neither me nor my yearning and caring heart
from whence my yearning you scorned
from whence this very heart you tossed
but now you may know
yet I must still be less wiser
for devoting any time to you,
or your feathers and their sorry plight
time to walk on, while you perch
and look down upon nothing
and maybe scorn nothing
unless you do the ground
this same upon which I once stood
for time has surely told on us
like the final bell that tolls on an ended chapter
yet as I walk away,
I wish I was not less wiser
