My life from a mountain top
I was born as a woman of today. With the identity that I hold, I certainly am not just born to breathe and make sure it’s just survival I have to deal with each day. There is a journey and a fate that I have been destined to achieve. I have been focusing on the word “Change” all throughout. And by change, I do not intend to change the way the earth revolves. I want a little contribution from my side, a tiny gesture that would make a lot of difference. That little difference is what I see myself making.
In one of my voluntary work at Habitat for Humanity recently, I was keenly observing all the women from all walks of life. There were women from the First World, so vivid, bold and fearless. They could lead and let their voice be heard all because there were free. I want to be someone like that as I grow up too. And there were women from my part of the world, my nation. There were women carrying big buckets of water all the way uphill. They had to do this every day while I was already exhausted by a five day of such errands. They were women showing their physical strength doing all the construction work they could. I could see it all and then I just reached to one simple conclusion, no matter what part of the world we come from, we are all the same. We all possess our own strength and gracefulness. It is just a matter of letting your voice be heard.
I met a couple of single women there. And their stories just touched me. Because they were single, it had cost them a lot of hardship. Apart from the load of having to take care of the entire family themselves, they also had to bear a lot of scrutiny and discrimination from the community and other family members. It was heartbreaking…I could do nothing but sympathize.
The idea just occurred. The best thing I could actually do is act for the benefit of my fellow sisters. I want to come up with a program that would give the single troubled women in at least one area of Nepal, an opportunity to earn their living on their own. Microfinance would help, or any other new ideas would too. A more thorough study, and then a concrete set of plans and ideas. This is the step I need to take and it is decided…the much needed step!
And I am not alone at all. Just a click onto Web 2.0 and I have other women like me, trying, working and making their voice be heard. I am making my voice heard too. And I know, a reply to my voice will come back. This is what Worldpulse is to me. It’s my own abode of support, encouragement and better ideas…to make the dream of womanhood come true.
