Iron Lady

Prof. Dora Akunyili is a woman to be reckoned with in Nigeria. She is currently the Minister for Information of our great nation, Nigeria, a woman who speaks when others listen only . She was the Director-General of the the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC), established by Decree No. 15 of 1993 ,a Parastatal of the Federal Ministry of Health. Her job was to regulate and control the quality and standard of Foods, Drugs, Cosmetics, Medical Devices, Chemicals, Detergents and packaged water imported, manufactured locally or distributed in Nigeria.

The management under the dynamic leadership of Prof. (Mrs.) Dora Akunyili made intensive efforts to positively touch the lives of stakeholders (consumers and Dealers) through public enlightenment campaigns, education and persuasions. But she was refered to as a wicked woman because of her unprecedented efforts to stop the "merchants of deaths" in Nigeria. An attempt was made on her life in 1993 by the evil people who felt her duties were spoiling their illegal and unhealthy drug and food businesses. The people wanted to be rich at all cost, even at the expense of innocent Nigerians' lives, their fake and substandard drugs and foods have claimed over five hundred thousand lives.
Thank God , Dora escaped the gun fires , today she brings in over 400 reputable international and national awards and she recently launched her book titled" The war against counterfeit medicine:My story" in Abuja ,Nigeria.

Tell me, can a woman have it all? Dora is in a working marriage, she has raised her own children and currently helping to raise her grand children and she is on the top of her career as a woman, a Nigerian woman. Dora Akunyili was raised by the Nigerian community, in fact , she benefited from national scholarship awards starting from her secondary school level to her university level, including her doctorate and post -doctorate achievements. She is a symbol of every Nigerian girl-child and woman who come from humble and low backgrounds. For every woman who will dare to dream, who will determine to be strong and steadfast and who will be selfless in serving humanity;the success story shall be unstopped , ground breaking and unending.

Congrats Dora.
