2010 voices of our future Applicants/challenges and barriers to creating change in my community.
I am coming from Kisumu Town East, this is a community which is marginalized and politics has brought it down as to nothing can reach us on time.We have no access to Development facilities and from this fact,my community is poor and slagging behind compared to other communities in Kenya.I registered a community Project in the year 2009 and up to this time i have not received any support from the Government nor the donor community. The fact is very simple,i dont have an access to Adverts,Strong personality to show me what i should do,I have no member from my community who can introduce me to those who are dealing with projects like this one of mine[widows and orphans].I have sold three parcels of land plus my car to run the orphanage and School for the orphans. My Government is oppressing me and they are threatening to close down the orphanage if i dont meet the required standard. What worries me is where are they planning to take these children?these are total orphans who have no roof to lay their heads, these children are now attending School and they are happy.I am for change but nobody is there to hold my hands,a Project of this type can not go on with out connection in fund raising and International guidance on how to manage by attending workshops,International meetings and often communication with the people heading similar Projects. The fact that i am from a poor community will never put me down and i will go on for change and advocate for my projects objectives. My main objective is;;;Eradicate Poverty by [1]Providing Education to the children.
[2]Teach the community how to live healthy
[3]Introduce progrrammes on sustainability like food production, small enterprise business and activities to generate fund for women like Tailoring,Knitting,Hair dressing, growing vegetables and flowers and selling in the local market and Internationally.
[4]To bring change in the community by holding work shops and giving civic Education on Gender, cruel culture and traditional customs of wife inherrittence, early girl child marriage, home cleansing rituals and belief in witch crafts.
Young girls are
running from home every day to go and look for life, they end up in prostitution which leads to HIV/AIDS
and early pregnancy.Already i have started a project for my women group on food sustainability,i have bought a few tailoring machines for them to train in dress making,i also have bought two machines for them to train in knitting.I have given them a chance to learn how to write and read in my school in the evenings after normal school time for the children.
Their main problem is they dont come for their lessons when they attend their periods, the women are happy and i
always give them hopes that one day their Well -fare will get help from the International community. They need sanitary
Towels and toiletries to keep their body clean.
I am so happy to be a member of Pulse wire community,i know one day i will get a god willing heart who will hold my hands and show me the way to meet my requirements. Here i have met genuine friends and i will meet many more,i know i will stand up by the help of this Pulse-wire sister hood.See me in -http//ketwangi wordpress.com.
May the Grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you.

Thank you
Thank you very much for this post, Emily. I am so moved by your story, and I am truly sorry that it has been so difficult for you to find funding for your amazing project. Your ideas for helping your community are absolutely wonderful. Educating children is one of the most important causes to me, but I also think your idea about providing civic education to teach women about their rights in the community, and also your idea about pracitcal education to teach about living healthy and sustainably are really great ideas that will help your community tremendously. I hope that you are able to get income-generating programs to women going soon as well. I strongly believe that empowering women and educating children are two of the best ways for easing poverty in any community.
I hope that the pulsewire community helps you connect with women who can help your cause. I would be happy to spread the word about your orphanage here in the US as best I can. If you send me a message with how to contact you, we can talk about how I can help to spread the word and raise awareness (and hopefully some money) for your cause among my friends and family.
All the best,
Olivia
Hello Olivia, You are lovely
Hello Olivia,
You are lovely and you have the word of God and the grace of our Lord JESUS CHRIST YOU.You will be lifted high, you have chosen to live a meaningful life.I am a Kenya community nurse,a mother of five children and six grand children.I am a single parent who knows the pain of abuse from men.I am volunteered my home to the mother less babies and children after the Post -Election violence which killed so many of my community members, these children had no place to call a home. The old widows today dont have those who can take care of them, they lost their sons in this conflict. For young widows who lot their husbands and have no way out,i have registered a Well -fare Project on Eradication of Poverty.I have bought for them three sewing machines, and a knitting machine with a vission of getting more machines and materials to work on .These women are 40 and the orphans are 70.I have sold 3 parcels of land and a car to survive the children. Write to me and i will send for you details about this PROJECT.May the Almighty God be with you.Abundant of blessings.

Inspiring Strength
Dear Emily,
This is a heartbreaking post to me but one from which I and I'm sure many other women from around the world and also from your own community can draw inspiration, strength and hope. Your courage and determination to lift your community in the face of adversity is amazing, awe inspiring, incredible and your story, your challenges, have touched me deeply. I truly hope that you will find the support and partnership you need here on Pulsewire to make your dreams a reality. In the meantime keep writing, keep all of us informed, keep connecting. Thank you.
I wish many blessings of abundance in love, health, peace and security to you and your community.
People believe in you
Things have moved on. Emily's voice is being heard and the orphanage she has set up is now attracting good attention and help. Exposure through a website seems to be the new platform for budding social entrepreneurs and for Emily it's all happening here http://www.ketwangi.wordpress.com
She called the orphanage Ket Wangi, which means Wait (and) See, quite an appropriate name in retrospect.
Emily, well done for starting this and lots of good wishes for the future.
