Challenging Sexism

stopsexismsmall.jpg

Good Morning Everyone,

My favorite thing to do each morning is to read online articles while drinking a hot cup of coffee.

This morning, I came across Greta Christina's blog entry on sexism and how it hurts men. It's a great read on why challenging rigid notions of masculinity is good for everyone.

Some of my favorite quotes are:

  • "Pop culture is the sea we're all swimming in."
  • "Sexism, and the enforcement of gender roles, hurts women way more than it does men: from economic inequity to literal, physical abuse."
  • "Sexism, and the enforcement of gender roles, hurts women way more than it does men: from economic inequity to literal, physical abuse."
  • "Machiavelli And finally, I have my hard-nosed, self-centered, Machiavellian reasons for caring how sexism hurts men, and for fighting against it:It helps women."

Here's the link to the intro. The argument gets fleshed out a lot more in the second part.

Enjoy and feel free to share any reflections.

Claudia
