Nigerian meet up 2010
Dear all!
I am so excited this many people have join the Nigerian cafe thus far and hopefully many more shall join, contribute and participate. Just a brief introduction of me.....I am Fatima Waziri. I am based in the United States and have been an online community volunteer with World Pulse for almost two years now.
Jade Frank and I decided that it would be nice to organize a Nigerian meet up for WP members and anyone else who believes in the vision of WP and would like to join. I am scheduled to be in Nigeria sometime in October and with the help of everyone i hope we can effectively organize a successful first Nigerian meet and greet. This meet up shall enable us all to know one another beyond the web, network, share our visions and road maps. Also there shall be a brief training on Pulse Wire.
To set the ball rolling i shall appreciate some thoughts from everyone;
1. The meet up is set to be in Lagos as most of WP members are situated in Lagos and its environs. So does anyone have any idea as regards a venue for the meet up or is willing to donate a space.
2. If anyone has an idea on how to make this event a blast! please share your thoughts on this space or send me an email at fatwaz16@yahoo.com.
I shall be in touch periodically and shall let everyone know in advance once a date is fixed for the event
Cheers!
Fatima

Place for meeting
Let me know the exact date in October. The organization I work with - Committee for the Defence of Human Rights (CDHR) has space enough to host activist / Civil Society members. I offer to host members free of charge and can assist to mobilize identified media activist. CDHR compound is serene for meetings of CSOs. Apart from my office CDHR, I presently work with some community based organizations (CSOs) to mobilize communities for the purpose of transforming this country via the next election. One of the events was a rally last Thursday in Ikeja Lagos. We must make our voices to be heard and our votes to count, the time is NOW!

I will love to be there
Hi Fatima,
I will love to be at the meeting, just let us know on time so that we can plan for it. I will be so happy if you people could come to Ile-Ife where i can host you but since Celine will host us in Lagos, that is okay, the problem of Lagos is space and she is solving that for us.

nice development
Fatima Dear,
Thank you for this new development. it will really be so nice to meet with all friends on PulseWire. Please do get in touch with us when you are in Nigeria. Lagos is nice, we could get a nice affordable hotel maybe with your reach. send invitation to all through our phone numbers and email. Get people to share some ideas and way forward of WP in Nigeria. The training will also be nice. We could have a dress code - native (simple) or whatever. Am sure it is going to be exciting.

Hello Vivian,
I am really excited about the event. I think dress code should be business casual or traditional.

Space
Hi Fati
The space can accommodate 20 to 25 persons inside, we have chairs and table and up to 100 or more outside. If going to use outside, we have to rent canopies and more chairs as this is raining season. But if you stick to 20 persons, we use inside. Olutosin knows my office building well. In fact it is always a gathering place for civil society / activists. I will talk to my management and certainly the answer will be positive.
Date, time, Central location
Dear Fatwaz,
We could host too and take about 40 persons in my office. Location is by Sweet Sensation, Ijaye Road, Ogba, Ikeja. I do not know where Celine's office is. In Lagos, location matters and ours is central. Celine should share her address, so we can take that into consideration.
The date and time is required so that we have something to work around.
Time is one thing you need to plan for as we are also busy people. When exactly in October is the meeting to hold. My calender is planned and that may make it tight for me, no matter how much I really want to participate, even if it holds in my office.
Lets have that PLS.

Hello Princess,
Thank you for offering us a space. Since your space is bigger, it will be a better option and you are also right as regards location. I am working around the end of October, next month that is, that is when i am scheduled to arrive. Also I what is your input on the best day of the week and time for us to organize our event? Also we shall need a photographer/videography any thoughts on anyone who can volunteer their time?
Peace!

Sounds like an excellent idea! Please keep me in the loop. I will look into options for meeting places and other logistics.
Excellent!
Dear Fatima,
I am Maldivian living in Sydney. I would love to be part of the gathering. October 2011 sound good to me. I am an individual. I haven't been to the continent, Africa, yet and I would love to make this my first visit. Please let me know your thoughts. I will need to save for the trip :-) It would be good opportunity to meet people and learn about a different country and culture.

Dear Amei,
Thank you for your interest in our Nigerian event. However, it is been scheduled for sometime in October 2010...sorry. It would have been awesome to host you in Nigeria as that would have been your first visit to the continent. I am sure other opportunities shall arise. I shall keep you posted.
Cheers

Thank you :-)
Dear Fatima,
A little dissapointed :( I am sure there will be other opportunites in future. My first Nigerian encounter was in UK, Leeds in 1988. She was a lovely person whom I shared the accomodation when I was studying there. Since then I have read about the natural beauty and is a country on my list to visit in Africa. :-) Will be looking forward to an opportunity.
Yes, please do keep me in the loop. Have a safe fruitful time in Nigeria.
Cheers n peace
Amei
Re: Location
My office is at 43, Adeniyi Jones Avenue, Ikeja. The building is for Committee for Defence of Human Rights, It is called 'Rights House'. see: www.cdhrnigeria.org It is more central than Sweet Sensation at Ijaye Ogba. The traffic and bad road around the Ijaye Rd, Ogba is also worrisome. Well I am disposed to meeting anywhere in Lagos but my worry is the date as I have to be in Ghana for a consultative meeting on Disability and Ecumenism second week of October.
What day of the week do you
What day of the week do you think will be best for the event? The event will be the last week of October, so hopefully you would have returned from Ghana right?
Peace!
Fatima

I suggest Saturday so that workers can also attend. But last Saturday of the month is usually days for environmental sanitation which takes of by 7 am and end at 10 am. So I suggest we start the meeting from about 11am. People coming from Ife like Busayo can come into Lagos in the evening of Friday and spend the night before the meeting. This has to be in any hotel around the location where the meeting will hold.
Thank you Celine. I think
Thank you Celine. I think 11am is a bit too early I was thinking of around one?
Peace!

Fine Fatwaz, 1pm is okay by me, how long will the meeting last? Note that traffic in Lagos can keep people behind schedules.
