Welcome to the Voices of Our Future Applicants Group 2010

Welcome to the Voices of Our Future 2010 Applicants Group!

Your voice is important to us and we are so excited to see women from around the globe joining our group. Even though there are only 30 spaces in the full, five-month long program starting this November, we value all the efforts you will put into this application process in the next month.

You are part of a the gathering force of women who are using their voices to change the world, one person, one community and one nation at a time. World Pulse is here because we believe in the importance and value of promoting global issues through the eyes of women and we believe that your solutions are critical to bring about a just and peaceful future. Voices of Our Future is here because we believe that women need the tools and knowledge to fully participate in the new media environment of web 2.0 and citizen journalism, which form a powerful platform for social change.

Starting on September 15th, we will give you learning materials on women and media, web 2.0, citizen journalism and the World Pulse voice, and ask you to complete a short writing assignment. These assignments will be our view into your world, your voice and your visions for the future. During this process, don't hesitate to ask your fellow applicants for help! Post questions in this group, ask for feedback on drafts and connect with one another!

Our staff are also here to assist you with questions you may have. Here is a short introduction to staff:

Rachael Maddock-Hughes, Program Manager for Voices of Our Future: I have been working with World Pulse since December 2009. I have 9 years experience in the humanitarian aid and international community development sector. Prior to World Pulse, I worked in Burma, Thailand, Afghanistan, and India. I bring my passion for gender and development and community centered solutions to World Pulse.

Scott Beck, Program Coordinator for Voices of Our Future: Scott has been working with World Pulse since September 2008. He was key in supporting the inaugural year of Voices of Our Future 2009. Before joining World Pulse, he worked in Nicaragua and Namibia on community development projects. He brings his passion and enthusiasm to help promote women's voices to our team.

Lydia Holden, Volunteer for Voices of Our Future: Lydia has experience as a freelance writer, as well as an editor for international magazines. She has worked in China and India and brings her experience in conflict resolution and a passion for girls education to World Pulse.

Help us get to know you!
Please fill out a short survey before September 15th. This survey helps us know where applicants are coming from, what your background and experience are. This information will be used internally, and if used externally (for reports or donors) it will be anonymous. Click HERE.

We are here to help you finish this process! Please don't hesitate to post your questions to the group journal. We will reply as soon as we can!

With gratitude,

About application

Hello Rachel i sent a intern message, hope you got it. Please let me know, Thanks,

It has been about one year since the first time I set my goal to serve my fellow Afghan sisters. During this year, I have learnt about 5 young Afghan women's life stories and experiences. The process of learning about them led me to a wide understanding of my identity as an 18 years old Afghan woman who was borned during new era of political changes in Afghanistan. Now, my dream is to put my next steps on the path to understanding Afghan women's identity through recent conflicts. Therefore, I will be able to find my own voice. I can see the challenges for my mission, however, I am commited to acheive my goal by learning about 10 more young Afghan women's stories untill 2011.
I hope World Pulse will be a good reference to find the other 10 young Afghan women.

Hello Women of the World

Iam so excited to be part of this global network of women's voices. I want the world to hear about stories of women from rural Uganda especially those with living with HIV& AIDS. The issue of stigma and discrimination is still very high in our communities.

To see the future coming like this. To possibly be a voice....I've waited and wondered and watched. When will we know that women have the answers. Women have the patience, the joy, the peace. The qualities men aren't permitted to express. The qualities that we need now, to heal. Heal the planet, Heal our babies, Heal ourselves. May we now rise up and be heard : )

Much Love to World Pulse and Partners for this opportunity.

Global Women's Voices, FINALLY!

Hello Everyone!

I'm so glad to e-meet you all. When I saw the facebook page update today about applying to be part of such an incredible, GLOBAL, women's movement, I was SO thrilled. I thought to myself, "I'm going to apply; even if I don't get selected, to be part of a community of global thinkers who are committed to raising women's voices is a cyber dream come true!" (No, seriously - it is)

On my blog, and in my email signatures, are my words, "Your voice is the most important part of any movement." I believe this with every bone in my body. I have been blogging, writing, sharing my experiences, speaking out, and speaking UP in forums where women's voices, queer/LGBT voices, immigrant voices, etc, have been missing, for years. So stumbling across this online community today, where I'm being encouraged to raise my voice for the purpose of creating progressive solutions, is pure serendipity!

I have longed to be braver, more savvy about contributing my thoughts and perspectives to mainstream media and publications, but I don't think I've ever been confident/brave enough -- I didn't/don't think I have the skills necessary to get published/read/listened to. But I'm SO eager to learn from even just participating in the application process, and from interacting with all of you.

Thank you SO much for putting this together!

In solidarity,

It all begins with a question

Hie All

I am very excited to be part of the movement. Its always inspiring to see women come together in the spirit of sisterhood. As women we are questioning our oppression and suppression, the continued injustices perpetuated by patriarchy. We are taking charge of our lives. We are reclaiming our space , amplifying our voices and joining forces to create change and equality for all. This platform will give us the opportunity to speak out and break the culture of silence. What better way to empower ourselves than to use this space..

Aluta Continua!!

Dear Piseth, Although we

Dear Piseth,

Although we appreciate your interest and know there are a lot of very supportive men out there, this program is specifically for women. We want to ensure that women do not feel like they have to censor their thoughts and stories, and we feel that in a mix-gender group, some women might not be completely comfortable.

I encourage you to be supportive to the members in this group, read their stories, and encourage the women in your life to join. We appreciate your understanding!

Kind regards,

Great Strides

It is astoundingly amazing how much information and opportunities global initiatives are presenting now for women!

I just happened to stumble on this site and was very excited. The world over, women have been marginalized is every sphere of expression. I am looking forward to meeting women driven to rise up for their fellow women, exchange views, and ideas.

PulseWire is that opportunity that women must appreciate and embrace..

Thank you, thank you

Hello All,

This is such a wonderful opportunity, to learn, to share and to take action. It feels really great to be hear, reading your post make me feel proud to be a woman and I hope that the contribution we make in our respective countries increases awareness and most of all it gives voices to girl children.

My name is Rudzanimbilu, I'm from South Africa. I've always wanted to write about poverty but it's always not news. And my prayer every single day is that every woman, every girl and young women should have access to education so that our voices can be raised. We are no longer going to be sidelines, we are going to rise and we are going to find ways and means to empower us and that feeling is great indeed.

Thank you once again for all,
