Story of violence

Why life for her was different ……….why she suffered a lot……….. Is it just because she was a woman ………though she was, a daughter, a wife, a sister, and a mother too. She had scarified a lot to win her life but she lost her life and death had triumphed. …………..we lived in the same world then why it happens to some women’s who are poor, born in backward area. Is this their fault for being part of such society???

The story which I am going to tell you is about two girls who lost their lives just because of these conservative social thinking.

Mudana was a hard working, sincere girl. She belonged to (Gupis, Gilgit), northern areas of Pakistan. She did her FSc and was very interested in teaching. After doing her FSc, her parents forced her to get married .She was in love with a boy who was a lawyer. But unfortunately her parents didn’t like him. They wanted their daughter to marry a boy who was their relative .His name was Shardullah, he was an illiterate person. He was just helping his father in farming. As Mudana was very obedient she agreed to marry shardullah and didn’t talk about her love. Since expressing feelings for a girl about her love in front of her parents and relatives is a kind of crime in that society. Hence, she married to Shardullah at the age of 19. At the beginning her life was normal; she accepted everything as it has been written in her fortune.

After marriage she stopped studying and started to work in a school as a teacher. After one year she got a baby boy named as “sunny” .life was normal but with the passage of time certain changes came in her life .The people around village started laughing at Shardullah, that he does nothing and his wife is the only source of income, she is beautiful she can leave him anytime, “hundred mouth hundred words”. Gradually her husband Shardullah became frustrated and he started talking badly with Mudana. But with the passage of time their clash increased her husband started beating her .she was a great example of tolerance, she hided everything from her parents and society. She knew that if she told anything to anyone it will create a trouble for her .Her husband might divorce her and Divorce woman is no more respectful in that kind of society.

Just because of her parents esteem in society, she hided every grief and pain in her own heart .But I ask why it’s like that ……….? Why the society always gets woman wrong?? ……I really wonder about this question.

The story didn’t end here this situation goes on. After two years they got another baby girl they named her as “Saima”.Their relation started to became worse day by day. Although, Mudana tried a lot to, handle everything but she wasn’t able to do anything .She felt like someone has tied her hands and shut her mouth . She was very unfortunate .she had a very big family, mother-in-law, father-in-law, six brother in laws and three sister-in-laws. Her relation with her mother in law wasn’t good. Her mother-in-law always beat her and used bad words .she tolerated everything, she was helpless .she always thought that it’s better to die then to go back to her parents home as a divorced women.

The unlucky Mudana tried a lot to make them happy but she herself don’t know why her husband and other family members where doing this to her. She was doing job in a high school and after school she had to do all work at home, making dinner, washing clothes etc.

One day she was alone at home, shardullah came from outside and ordered her to make a cup of tea. It was the winter’s season; there is always a terrible cold because of snow fall. She requested her husband to cut the wood because due to weakness she wasn’t able to cut the wood by herself. Her cruel husband refused to cut the woods then they started arguing with each other and shardullah stood up with anger and took the sharp axe and broke Mudana’s head and hands, she cried and screamed a lot but no one was there to help her. Her husband beat her until she was senseless, the whole kitchen was filled with blood,Mudana’s beautiful smile was no more, keeping the secrets in heart she left this cruel world, shardullah run away from there. While mudana was taking her last breaths suddenly her younger brother-in-law came in and shouted loudly which made everyone around to come inside to figure it out, what had happened .who ever saw this situation they were shocked, questions raised about why did this happened .she was a nice girl ,she never told anything about herself, who did this cruel act ?,who was her enemy? , no one was there to blame upon.

People thought maybe she is alive they all took Mudana to hospital but after one hour she was completely dead .Police came and made an investigation but they found Shardullah as murderer. They took him into prison …his sanity burned Mudana , children’s and his family.

The story didn’t ends here after two years when Mudanas story was almost lost.Every one forgot her except her parents who were blaming themselves for making a wrong decision but it was useless.

Mudana’s younger brother-in-law Javeed got married with a beautiful girl named as noor jahan .Javeed was a good and hardworking boy .He was in Pakistan army .Noor jahan and javeed were happy with each other ,javeed was 22 years old and Noor jahan was 17. After 2 month of their marriage javeed went back to cant (army) in different city, Noor jahan was in the village .Noor jahan was the only lovely daughter of their parents .she was very quiet girl, she worked all the day at her home ,her mother-in-law was not good with her she always used to tease her. Some people in village think that daughter in law’s are their servant.

One night Noor jahan was talking with javeed on phone .They had a long conversation suddenly she started crying .javeed asked her what happened but she said nothing except “it seems to me that I am going to die, I don’t know why “.if u come back in vacations I have written a letter for you it would be in my cupboard please read it .He asked her many times but she said nothing ,javeed was very worried and confused that what had happened to her .At last he said I am with you, don’t you worry nothing will happen to you they said goodnight to each other ………was it for last time???

Next day afternoon some body found her dead body hung in the shed. The first person who saw her body was the same brother-in-law, who saw Mudana’s dead body. He again shouted and all the people from village came to their home again the same situation as 2 years before had happened and the same questions rose that who did this? Is this a suicide attempt or murder?

Meanwhile police arrived and did investigation but they found nothing. Actually It is considered very bad to do investigation about women issue most of the people want to hide this type of things. Noorjahan’s mother was completely dead because she loves her daughter so much. When javeed heard this news he got a leave from his work for 2 weeks and came to village. He was very sorry to Noorjahan’s parents and was angry with his parents he decided never to talked to them again. He searched for the latter all day and night about which Noorjahan talked once, but he couldn’t found the latter. Her cupboard was open and there was nothing in it. After that day javeed hated his parents and left his home.

This is a story which happened at my village .when I heard this news it was very sad for me. But one thing hurted me very badly that no one was there to talk about the murder of these two innocent girls .Now fortunately I got a chance to speak for them.

Our people need awareness, this all is just because of their terrible and useless perceptions man always wants to dominate themselves ,they never want a women to come forward and fight for their rights.

But I believe “women are the best” and “women united never divided” .

Thanks

These are two tragic stories. Domestic violence enables the women in so many ways, and thus, through your stories it even enabled the life of two wives. What also frightens me, maybe even more than the husbands, is that the communities who were involved did little. Thus, in your personal experience do you feel like your community is neglecting you as a women, mother, wife, and worker?

Heartbreaking

Shakila,
Thank you for sharing the stories of these two women whose lives are being repeated in villages throughout Pakistan and India. The silence of the families and villagers only perpetuates these crimes and leaves everyone with the perception that such killings/deaths are somehow justified. The concept of women as property is so deeply entrenched in the social, political and economic fabric of Pakistan that it seems the government and local authorities ignore the daily occurrences of women being killed and maimed by their families, and the murderers are almost never prosecuted.

In order for these crimes to be punished as the criminal acts that they are, women must be given full rights as mandated under the United Nations Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination against Women and their situation of systemic subordination confronted in an effort to counteract the low status of women in Pakistani society.

I hope you will continue to share the stories from Pakistan so that we may unite to speak out for those who have been silenced.

community is responsilble

dear Dear Carrie pence!

This is the community which is responsible for all these differences. People think that women are less dominant. They have less rights then men. But still there are some people who think about gender equality.

As far as myself is concern yes I was neglected in certain areas, but being lucky my family especially my father is a man of justice. My father follows the right ways of religion which teaches to have equality. Moreover, I was grown up in different environment. After a long time when I started to live in my area I realized that people are unfair. The world is not fair.

Thank you

Dear Janice !

Thank you so much for reading “story of violence, “and appreciating my work. You know there are many real stories but no one is to tell. People are afraid to raise their voice.

I don’t know what will be the reaction of people of my area when they will read my stories. But I am not afraid I have to take initiative, otherwise I will blame myself not rising voice for those poor women. In addition I need all of your appreciation.

thnaks again
