Gender, Peace and Security 2010

Recently I got a chance of attending a conference, 'Gender, Peace and Security 2010'. The conference was held in Munich, Germany from 9th-10 July. There were women from different countries and different areas and their focus of work was on the issues and problems associated with peace and security and how all this affect women. How they are being victimized and abused during war and conflicts. The focus was also on United Nations Security Council resolution 1325...what this resolution is about, what is its significance and what are the issues regarding its implementation.

There were different speakers who spoke about the feminist perspective on peace and security; the need for gender perspective in intentional relations; absence of females at policy making level regarding gender issues during conflicts and wars; how can we integrate gender into peace and security policy; and also the EU and gender, peace and security commitments in European policy.

We got professionals and committed people talking on the issue and describing its need and importance. The conference was a memorable and enlightening experience.

Wow this conference sounds like an amazing one! Have you heard of the book

    Insecure at Last

by Eve Ensler? It talks about security from a feminist and peaceful perspective- how some people have to instill fear in others to make themselves feel safe. It also talks about women's safety specifically. A wonderful read if you can get a hold of it!

Also, Welcome! I hope you have a wonderful experience on this site- connecting with many people. Your work seems very interesting and inspiring. I look forward to reading more :)

Much Peace,
