Hymenoplasty in Europe

Recently, I read an article in the New York Times that sheds light on an important issue for Muslim women living in Europe. The article, "In Europe, Debate Over Islam and Virginity" by Elaine Sciolino and Souad Mekhennets discusses the increasing frequency of hymen restoration surgeries so that a woman can appear to be a virgin on her wedding night. The women interviewed in the article share some interesting views on the convergence of contemporary European practices and traditional Muslim beliefs. You can read the article at: http://www.nytimes.com/2008/06/11/world/europe/11virgin.html?scp=1&sq=hy...
