Thank you for the welcome!

Hello Carri,

I definitely look forward to connecting with like-minded individuals and learning from each correspondence. Also, I will definitely check out the Rafiki group - thanks for the tip. I am always open to new opportunities that lead me to expand my research and travel opportunities. It's wonderful to be part of a network that encourages collaboration and education. Thank you again for the note, and I hope to learn more about you and your field.

Best,

Welcome

Great to have you join the World Pulse Community.
I'd love to hear more about what you do!
A friend of mine is a human rights attorney and she and I have worked together
on issues in Africa and with sex trafficking issues.
Perhaps the two of you would have lots to talk about.

-Jennifer

Hello Jennifer,

Thank you so much for the welcome note. It's great to find friendly, open people here! I conduct research for DePaul University's International Human Rights Law Institute. Most recently I have examined issues related to disarmament, demobilization, and reintegration (DDR) processes as they pertain to women and child soldiers. Most of my case studies have examined prior scenarios in sub-Saharan Africa. I hope that my research and collaboration with other academics and professionals will help to improve DDR processes and shift the planning, design and implementation stages so future initiatives can be more inclusive of women and children. I am currently researching sexual violence during conflict and have extended interests in transitional justice and post-conflict justice as they relate to women and gender issues.

I would love to hear more about what your friend does and potentially connect with her. While I have not personally explored sex trafficking issues, I know that several other interns and fellows at IHRLI have done extensive research in that arena. I would be interested in reading about her findings and work.

I see that you live in Portland. I've never been but always here amazing things about it. I recently moved from Boulder, Colorado to Chicago and am missing the West! What kind of photography work do you do?

Best,

Courtney
