The Female Condom-more than a condom!

Every woman has her own story about the female condom whether she has used it or not. For a long time, both men and women depended on the male condom until the introduction of what is known as the female condom. Here in Cameroon, enough sensitization is being done to get more women protected against STDs and to complement already existing family planning programming .(Infact the common type here is sold and distributed under the brand name 'Protectiv'). In the urban and rural areas women are being schooled on its use and advised to carry them in their bags to the farm, work, market, party and just wherever.

Listening to some friends chat about how comfortable they are with this barrier device, gives me the impression that this relatively new contraceptive is still to win their hearts.
They worry over the fact that they have to actually hold the condom all through intercourse, something they find not quite comfortable. Others are still to come to terms with its physical attributes. What i think is that there is the need for attitude change. Very few women out here actually buy condoms. The silence; little or no talk about issues considered intimate like sex and condom-use amoung girls and women.

Hey, and before i rest my fingers, take this, a man worried in one of our chats that 'finally women can secretly get pregnant for men after a few tricks with the used female condom'! Don't ask me what she needs to do with the used condom.

Whats your little story about the female condom?

No story

Hi,
I have heard about the female condom, and also heard the complaints about it. But I think the idea behind the female condom is to give the woman a chance to choose. If the man does not want to wear a condom, the woman can protect herself. The female condom gives the woman a bargaining chip.

yes

Hi Nelly,
i am in no way against the use of female condoms. I should say the introduction of the female condom is a milestone in betttering the lot of the woman.
Please i will like you to tell me what you think about the device whether you have used it or not.
cheers!

No

I have never used a female condom before, so I wouldn't know what to make it of it. Like I said, I have heard others say it is uncomfortable but no, no self experience there.

cheers to you to!

Try it!

variety is the spice of life. just be adventurous and break the monotony of using only the male condom so that you can tell our fellow sisters how good it is. this is what i think .

a little knowledge

hey,

you know, we we given a project, kinda business plan on female condom where we found that female condom is much safer than male because of the material from which it is made.it is useful for about 8 hours and there are various types of female condoms. here in Nepal, it is not easily accessible.

Do the women like it?

Hello Pooza11,
I love the idea that women can choose to use the female condom even when the man does not like the male condom. I like that the campaign to get more women using the consom should be intensified and some fears quelled. I'm glad to learn you were actually involved in the project in Nepal. Is the project still on?
