Poto Mitan: Haitian Women, Pillars of the Global Economy - A Special Screening
In celebration of Haitian Awareness Week the Haitian Drum Workshop, Makandal, and the Women and Gender Studies Program at Hunter College present a special screening of Poto Mitan: Haitian Women, Pillars of the Global Economy, a film by Tèt Ansanm Productions, with narration by Edwige Danticat. The compelling personal experiences of five courageous Haitian women workers illustrate the impact of neoliberalism on Haiti, its gendered nature, and its links to global struggles. The program also features performances by the Haitian Drum Workshop and Master Drummer Frisner Augustin, and a discussion and refreshments follow the screening. Admission: $10 general, $5 students and seniors. FREE for Hunter College students. Proceeds will go to the Lambi Fund, the fiscal agent of Poto Mitan. Further information: , makandal@earthlink.net

Presented by the Hunter College Haitian Drum Workshop and Makandal. Endorsed by the Women and Gender Studies Program at Hunter College. Warm acknowledgments to Renée Bergan, Co-Producer/Co-Director/Director of Photography/Editor of Poto Mitan.

Location:
Brecher Hall at Hunter College, Room 635 Hunter North. Enter the North Building on East 69th Street between Park and Lexington Avenues, take an elevator to the sixth floor, make a left off the elevator, then a right through the double doors. Head straight for Brecher Hall.
