Poem: I Have Cried Tears

I have cried tears that drained into a river,
I have cried tears that made a lake,
I have cried tears that made the Great Lakes,
I have cried tears of my home,
I have cried tears to wade in,
I have cried tears to gently feel the water on my hands,
I have cried tears so the previous generations can heal,
I have cried tears so the future generations can heal,
I have cried tears so the tribes can dance again,
I have cried tears so the tribes can sing again,
I have cried tears that fill buckets up to overflow,
Into rivers,
Into lakes,
Into the Great Lakes,
I have cried tears so the burden and weight on my heart will be lessened,
I have cried tears for my parents,
I have cried tears for my sister,
I have cried tears for my brother,
I have cried tears for my cousins,
I have cried tears for my relatives,
I have cried tears for my ancestors,
I have cried tears for the four footeds,
I have cried tears for the winged ones,
I have cried tears that fill buckets up to overflow,
Into rivers,
Into lakes,
Into the Great Lakes,
I will cry tears,
Cry tears,
Until I am gone.
