submerged in water

Tags:

Rain season is always associated with farming and admired for its green pastures and blossom of flowers. But this is not the case not the case in most parts of Zambia particularly Lusaka this year as most houses have been submerged in water.

Hundreds of residents especially in highly populated compounds of Lusaka are affected by the continuous rains. In these areas most pit-tratines used as toilets are fall of water due to the rains. This disaster here have caused a lot of concerns to the residents as more then five lives have been lost as a result of drowning. Some people have resorted to using plastic bags and buckets to answer the call of nature.

Most of the highly residential areas formally known as compounds have poor infrastructure and poor or lack of drainages system.

Few weeks ago the government informed the affected residents that they will be evacuated to another area. And the affected residents have called on government to hasten in assisting them as the fear of diseases such as cholera and dysentery may emerge.

Floods.

Thank you for informing us of this situation! My thoughts and prayers are with you and the citizens of Lusaka and other areas affected.

Has the Zambian government (and/or surrounding govn'ts) done anything to assist? This reminds me of Hurricane Katrina- so much devestation, so little done. Please keep us updated on any action that government(s) take.

Until we hear from you again, much peace and love.

Hi Sharese

thanks for your thoughs and prayers, the situation has continued. Although the government has put on measures to pamp the water in some places, the rains have continued. The goverment some weeks ago mentioned of evacuting some residents of misisi compound but up to now nothing has been done as houses continue to be flooded in water. I really don't understand how our government are so slow when it comes to assisting the vulnerable in society, maybe its because they are comfortable where they are

I will keep you updated

The safety of Zambians

Hi Dando,

While I am overjoyed to read your words again... I am saddened to hear of the situation in Lusaka. My heart goes out to the families of love ones lost to the floods and the people who are struggling to survive and maintain a sense of safety and sanitary.

I do hope you will keep us updated on the situation and what actions can be done by the government to alleviate the danger.

With love,
Jade

I will

keep you updated,
but as the situation is little is been done by our government. people's houses especially in some highly populated areas are affected by the floods. promises made by the government to move the affected family to other safe places is not yet fulfilled. We just hope something quick is done.

thanks for your concern
