An Ominous Debt

Our lives cannot be the same again. We are all with Haiti, yes, but there is something we can do that will help Haitians recover a little bit faster: ERASE THAT DEBT! The Haitian national debt is around 1 billion dollars. Humanity needs to give Haitian survivors a hand, in the form of grants, not debt.

Please sign this petition, as it will help relieve people´s lives and will make the institutions aware of the need to drop this debt for good, to release the burden from the people of Haiti.

Thank you for signing up in the following link:

Petition text:

As Haiti rebuilds from this disaster, please work to secure the immediate cancellation of Haiti’s $1 billion debt and ensure that any emergency earthquake assistance is provided in the form of grants, not debt-incurring loans.

Haiti needs a sustained international effort as it seeks to recover from this earthquake. The current outpouring of support is encouraging, and now we need to cancel Haiti’s debt so the country can start its recovery without the burden of debts it won’t be able to pay. In addition we must be vigilant that new aid doesn’t come in the form of loans that would create new debt for Haiti.

But here and now, there is a very clear goal: let’s get rid of this crippling debt.

Thank you,

Keren Dongo

End the Debt!

Thank you for sharing this Jackie.

More debt will certainly not help Haitians in the long-run. And, the existing debt will probably cripple the country even more than the devastating quake. I hope this campaign makes an impact and brings action from world leaders.
