Jamaica and Beyond...
Happy New Year to you all! I hope that each of us has a prosperous year and that all of our projects and work go well! I know it is cold in many parts of the world so I thought I would include a sunny picture of where I used to live in St. Mary. This is Firefly.
That being said, I would like to let you know what I am gearing up for. Currently Peace Corps Jamaica is working on starting a pilot program based around teen sexuality (the Caribbean has been given 50,000,000 (fifty million) us dollars in PEPFAR (president's emergency plan for AIDS relief)) funds. I am helping with that initiative by letting the Peace Corps know about my empowerment work with teenage girls and sharing the knowledge I have gained "in the field".
Another project I am working on is a creative arts project for the girls to have displayed at a national art festival called KOTE (Kingston on the Edge). A friend of mine is one of the planners of it and I have been discussing a showing of the girls work. My idea is for a photo presentation of their world. It would be called "Mi Worl, to di Worl" . I will make sure to post the pictures for all of you to enjoy.
Currently I am reading Half of a Yellow Sun by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie. It is my favorite book of the moment. My other favorite book is On Beauty by Zadie Smith. Both are phenomenal and not a "Single Story" (look up Adichie's talk about the Single Story if you get a chance).
What are the rest of you doing? What are you reading? Tell me your life story :)
