Can We,And The World Make a Difference?
Many children look towards the end of year with high expectations and joy. They look towards the festive season with anticipation.Christmas is the time to get-tobether with family and friends. The season for special food that has been long longed for.The time to recieve gifts. The time to usher out the old year and hug the new year with high expectations, including promotion to the next class.
Unfortunately, this may not be so with the orphans around us.They only witness other children enjoying these good things and it even makes the reality of being orohaned more harsh to them. Many fear the school opening of the new year, since there will be no new school uniform, books and school fees for the next class.
When one loses parents, especially early in childhood, one seems to lose direction and sometimes life looses meaning.Lucky children have been able to find new families to call their own,and helpers to ensure they get their basic needs and are able to continue with their education.Parents are irreplacable/Even though, such children are able to a greater extent, continue to lead lives like those of children with support from parents.
Many children head their houses after the death of their parents. Some are headed by children as young as 9 and 12.The rest of the children look up to them to provide them with their needs. When such children take the role of their parents the situation becomes sad:they are children themselves who need love and care.
Now that the festive season and the new year are round the corner, how can we step in to make a difference for these children. We all know that the joy of Christmas lies more in giving than recieveing: how can we give to these children to make a difference? Gifts vary, and each and every kind of gift is valued by the recipient.
I look forward to hearing your suggestions.
