Announcing Six Finalists for Voices of Our Future Awards

Dear Correspondents,

After a long, detailed, and bittersweet process of narrowing 30 brilliant women to six, we can go no further. We realize that we cannot make the final decision until we have interviewed each of the finalists, heard your voices, and listened to you talk about your vision for the world in your own words.

It is with pleasure that we announce the six finalists for the Voices of Our Future Media and Speaking Tour awards. They are:

Dando
Gertrude
Jackie
Malayapinas
Nusrat
Sunita

Jensine and I will be scheduling interviews with each of the finalists over the coming week. We will announce the three awardees next week. We apologize for dragging this out, but are committed to holding this process to the highest integrity.

Please join us in congratulating them!

With love,
Jennifer, Scott, and the World Pulse Team

I'm so so Pleased

Oh! Jennifer and the World Pulse Team,
I am so so pleased that these are the six you have chosen. I cannot imagine how hard it must have been but a huge smile came across my face when I saw the names of these six amazing women.

Nusrat! well deserved! My goodness! No top six list could have gone without her name here!
Malaya! Brilliant Journalist, wonderful woman!
Sunita, dedicated perseverance, a young woman to watch, a definite voice of the future
Gertrude, Fascinating woman, fascinating articles, has alot to teach all of us and I can't wait to hear more
Dando, Beautiful sweet Dando with the brilliant story ideas that always capture our attention and our hearts. A great inspiration. I can't wait to hear her voice in person
and last but no means least, our dearest Jackie, there's too much to say here about Jackie, her strength and determination is inspirational, her community spirit, her warmth, her friendship and of course her vision. I love that Jackie got this far. She has always wanted to be a journalist. She has not trained to be a journalist and here in these few short months, she has finally achieved her lifelong dream.

I'm giving them all a standing Ovation.

Hip Hip Hooray my dear friends. It's been amazing to be here among you and to have learned so much from you. I can't wait to hear more from you all! Congratulations!

Congratulations to everyone!

Congratulations to each and every one of you! Congratulations to those of you who made the top six, but really congratulations to all of you who put so much of your time, heart, sweat, tears, joy, and love into this program. It has been truly amazing to witness your journey and your growth as a group, as individuals, as writers and as leaders of your own communities. I am so honored to have had the chance to witness your journey here on PulseWire. For everyone at the World Pulse office, this has been a beautiful experience for us all to feel the power of your spirits and your words. You are all examples of what can happen when women have the chance to speak for themselves.

And the journey is not over! You have been through a powerful experience and powerful program. You have the tools to carry your voices and your intentions even further and we in the PulseWire community look to you to lead us into 2010 - to lead women into the future of empowerment and in achieving recognition as holding up half the sky.

Love lots,
Jade

Thanks to the whole community!!!! When I came home after belly dancing, I turned on my computer and there she was: Khushbu! Congratulating me, and I said: well, my b-day was some days ago!, and she said, "well check out your email, you have a b-day gift! and the rest is history!!

I read Tina's congratulations first, before even reading Jennifer's email. She made me feel great! And right now I am skyping with Khushbu, and she made me cry with her beatiful words.

It is indeed a big honor to be in the top six. I appreciate Jensine and Jennifer's decision and I will never, ever let you guys down. Your confidence and your support have meant the world to me.

Dearest

Dearest Friends,

Congratulations to Jackie, Dando,Gertrude, Malayapinas,Sunita for being in the list. I want to thank the rest of the group because without them it would not have been possible. I know all of us are feeling the same.

It has been a great honour and pleasure to be a part of such a wonderful group. I know it won't end here. We all will continue to raise our voices at the same time we will help and support each other. I hope this programme has achieved what it set out to; inculcating a belief in ourselves. Yes we can do it.

I could see a change in Maria as the programme went (she is such a darling) as well as feel one in myself. I felt an awakening of my hidden, forgotten dreams. I felt ready once again to take on the world. I felt I can do it. And that is a big thing.

I know I am not alone we all have changed with the programme. My heart really went out to Halima when I saw how hard she was working for the programme. I joined Arda in her elation as she submitted her assignment in time. I coulld see Tina trying to tell something to her son. I really imagined Jackie dancing with her instructor. I saw the fire with Joannes in her apartment. I shared the concern of Sunita about the plight of women in her country. Wow I am getting senti.
Sorry gals if I have forgotten someone.

And the World Pulse Team was always there. Our and only ours Mother Hen. Jensine, Scott, Jade, Janice, Ankur. I hope you people make the announcement soon for our future plans , the network and all.

I hope we all continue to share this wonderful realtionship.

Lots of Love

PS: Jennifer I didnt like the stretching of the awards. It gives me stress and I already have an overload of it :( I am living in a difficult place :)

Six were chosen but 30 are winners

I cannot express how incredibly difficult it was to choose just 6 finalists as you all have displayed such incredible aptitude, dedication, and passion as you shared your stories with us. The necessity to select six finalists and eventually three to represent you all does not in any way diminish the value you each have brought to World Pulse. From all corners of the world, you have travelled this journey together as you grew in confidence, spoke out with passion and integrity, and shared your joys, sorrows, hopes and dreams. You each embody the spirit and vision of World Pulse by speaking out for those who are silent or oppressed. I, and all of us here at World Pulse, am so incredibly proud of you all and I wish to thank you for bringing such joy to my heart. My day was not complete without hearing your voices and I hope you will all continue to share your dreams with us post-VOF. It has been an honour to know each and every one of you, and to call you my friends.

And congratulations to our six finalists who I know will represent you all with dignity, integrity and love. Big hug to everyone,
Janice

Hi Olakitike

The best part of the program is indeed getting in touch with you and the whole community. I am humbled to know that I meant something to you. My deep appreciation for that dear.

To the ones that make this possible, Jensine for making it happen, Jennifer for the support, Scott for caring, Ankur for the awesome web, our eternal thanks. But this time I would like to mention all the people that work "behind the scenes", that many of us don't know.

People like Corine, Elsy,Jade, Janice, Leslie, Ula, Jill, Andrea, Cynthia, Leah and of course, the interns that work with them: Amelia, Erin, Emily, Jody, Maria, Michelle, Harinee, Sarah, Alyson, Rupha. And the volunteers: Alicia, Anna, Ellie, Erin, Fatima, Gretchen, Jenna, Jocelyn, Katie, Laura Bolster, Laura Feldman, Lindsay, Mike, Purity, Reem, Saba, Sally, Violeta and Wendy.

And what would we be without our dearest mentors:

Grace, Pat, Debbie, Amy, Mary, Marcia, Vera, Dorothy, Patty, Carol, Kathleen, Helen, Jeanne, Susan, Yvonne, Linda.Virginia Lee, Virginia Herndon, Marla, Letonia, Taur, Mowna, Martina, Debra, Natalie, Cathy, J. Love, Carol Anderson, Caroline, Lynn, and Pat O'Connor.

And our most appreciated Midwives:

Gretchen, Karthika, Theresa, Gemma, Sally, Carly, Emily, Leslie, Erin Fanshier, Francie Wenner, Molli Vandehey-Patterson and Molly Rudberg-Leshnock.

Hew! Some number of people! I hope I didn't forget anyone, but if I did, please let me know so that I will make an even more beautiful post for them.

These people work hard everyday, and their good work is what makes our walk smooth.

Great leaders need great people behind them. Jensine has found these great people. We thank them, we are blessed to have them working here everyday.

And we hope to be in touch for a long, long time.

Hugs everyone,
