Introducing myself and my journal: girl !mpact

About Me:
I am the co founder of girl impact youth empowerment inc (www.girlimpact.org) which is a non profit that empowers girls to champion each other in their own communities as well as globally. I recently returned from a trip where we took 11 girls from marginalized communities in Toronto to Kenya where they attended a girls boarding school called Limuru girls school. From there we travelled to Tanzania to climb Mt. Kilimanjaro...all to prove that "this is what a girl can do!".

Girl !mpact is a curriculum to give girls the life skills that they need to make change in their lives based on 4 pillars: 1) Health and Wellness, 2) Advocacy and Women's Rights, 3) Communications and Presentation, and 4) Life Skills including personal finance, goal setting, vision boarding, etc. The entire organization is volunteer lead and run.

Each girl has a mentor to provide positive female role model influence. Collectively, the girls and their mentors have raised $50,000 to send girls to secondary school in Kenya. It is quite an accomplishment.

Welcome!

Wow! The Girl Impact organization sounds amazing!! Your trip to Kenya and Tanzania with the girls must have been amazing and empowering.

I am currently working with "at risk" girls (read: have all been abused sexually, mentally, and/or emotionally) in Jamaica. I will be checking your site and would like to know of any cirriculum resources that you may have.

One curriculum that I find particularly interesting and relevent to my girls (because where I work they are all of African decent) is Sisterhood Agenda. You can find the website at www.sisterhoodagenda.com. There are also a lot of people that do work with girls around the world on WorldPulse- let me know if you need help with resources or have resources to offer others!

I look forward to reading more about your organization and your journey (personally and with the girls you work with)!!

Much Peace and Love,

Sharese
