A lot on my plate

Starting a business, non-profit or not, is a lot of work – especially if you are doing it on your own. As passionate as I am about this project I still hit the wall occasionally. Today was one of those. Sometimes it all seems to be too much, too big, too impossible. My plate seems to grow rather than shrink with more and more tasks piled on an already teetering tower . . . and finding out today how complicated it will be to get federal non-profit status for my project is pretty daunting.

I feel like I’m running as fast as I can, but my feet aren’t touching the ground. Kind of like in cartoons where their feet are moving so fast it’s a blur, but they actually aren’t going anywhere. Some days it doesn’t seem like I’m making any progress, although of course I am. It’s just that there is always so much more to do. For every item I relish crossing off my list, there seems to be two more tasks to take its place. (My vision is that I will get to a point where everything comes together and my feet will touch the ground and I’ll take off like the Roadrunner!)

Fortunately I have friends that encourage me, some great volunteers to help me, mentors to keep me focused, an organization that provides resources, and the start of a community of supporters that believe in my vision. They all help keep me on track, and their passion and commitment is contagious. Sometimes all it takes is an enthusiastic comment from a stranger to a post I made to give me a renewed rush of energy. And if that doesn’t come at just the right time all I need to do is think about the women. I don’t know them personally yet – I don’t even know what they look like, what their names are, or where they live. But I know they are out there, and that my project can help them. And that is reason enough to keep running as fast as I can.

Strong cooking

I was really moved with the starfhish kid story. I was in deep need of something like that. It ll be perfect to encourage kids into action and to repeat in my mind once I feel I have too much in my plate...

Sometimes the river flows to quickly and then we have to swim harder.

Strong cooking!

keep running

Hi Wendy,

I am amazed with women like you who dream big. Who have a vision that is so big and so important, like the Global Kitchen, and having the drive to see those visions through to become a success that helps other women around the world to reach their own dreams. I think it's great that you can share not only your vision and your successes with us, but also your struggle to keep going. This resonates with many other women who are in the race to make their visions reality. Thanks so much for sharing this!

Hugs,
Jade
