Music- any suggestions?

I am not sure why, but music just moves my soul. I can be having a totally blase day and suddenly a song that vibes with me comes on and I just light up. My stomach tingles and my heart beats faster (usually in time to the beat) and I just go to a place in my head that is just.... elated.

Some of my favorite music is Erykah Badu, Jill Scott, Fantasia (legit), Ani Difranco, Jimmy Eat World, Snow Patrol, India.Arie, Tom Waits (early years), Dave Matthews Band, Floetry (from England), Mattafix (from England), Oliver Mtukudzi (from Zimbabwe), Freshly Ground (From South Africa), Beres Hammond (from Jamaica), Tanya Stephens (Jamaica), Tarrus Riley (Jamaica), and Telepopmusik (from France).

And these are just a few.

My question and call for suggestions is:

I would love to know other artists (or specific songs) that make your heart beat and/or your booty shake and/or your mind go to that wonderful place called "bliss".

Thanks and Love!

I also believe that music

I also believe that music moves my soul, more so than visual art, because you get so immersed in it, especially with earphones, that you forget about the outside world for a moment.
I like your suggestions of bands. These might be a little different from the ones that you have mentioned, but I like:
Sufjan Stevens (the album Illinois), Martin Sexton (13 Step Boogie), Slagsmålsklubben (Kom Igen Kommissarien), Michael Jackson (check out Stranger in Moscow), Nick Drake (Blues Run The Game), Regina Spektor (Hotel Song).
That's a wide variety of music, but let me know if you like any of the songs!

Keep the good vibes going :)

Oh I love it! Music has been a constant for me too....thank you all for adding so much music I haven't heard (yet...)

I am lovin' Tarrus Riley right now, and honestly I don't have much but could listen over & over...
Eric Bibb, Sweet Honey in the Rock, Morgan Heritage, The Be Good Tanyas, Glen Washington, Sara Groves, Ben Harper, Sarah Harmer, Bob Marley (love Confrontation lp), (almost anything reggae really....) and our kids have GREAT music from the Putumayo collection...we have even been known to rock out to Raffi.. ;)

thank you for starting this conversation....will check out some new music!!!

More wonderful music :) I can't wait to try some of the music you have recommended. I enjoy joanna newsom as well, she has such abandon with her voice and her lyrics are hilarious at times and very thoughtful at others.

Thank you!

One of the best ways to

One of the best ways to discover new music for me is myspace music profiles. A great way to check out new and old music from all over the world.

I,ve been getting back into 'afrobeat' again lately, you know the style developed by Fela Kuti in the 70's.

Check out Toli Nameless, she is a trombone player/vocalist from Brooklyn New York playing afrobeat/jazz and is touring France and UK right now with her 'Femm Nameless' line ups, mostly female musicians of same genre.
