Introducing myself and my journal: Be Here Now

About Me:
I have been trying to change the world toward good since my teen years...a journey now of more than 40 years! SOme days I feel proud of the work done, especially on women's rights and leadership both in the US and in throughout the world. When I think about my small part in the huge drama of women's lives and the gains and changes we have made, I see the glass as half full. On other days, I see the realities of poverty, illiteracy, lack of women's political representation, etc. and I can see the glass as half-full!
Most days I am an optimist! After leading public policy and women's rights efforts I broadened my work to a human rights/human security perspective. I have worked mostly in the US but also in, with and for Argentina; the countries of the former Yugoslavia; Southern African countries. After working as a Program Officer for the Kellogg Foundation I created a strategy/consulting business to help foundations, individual philanthropists/donors and progressive nonprofit organizations to set bold paths for sustainable social change.
I understand how to build organizations that are well-suited for 21st century activism--strong, shared, open networks that engage all available talent for the work we need to do.
My website:

My Passions:
My work, especially the relationships; my family and friends; the great cities I have lived-in, worked-in and love; cooking, the arts...guess I'm just a passionate person!

My Challenges:
Never enough time for all that seems important! Sometimes being a small business owner and a mostly solo consultant can feel lonely or insignificant.

My Vision for the Future:
More and better use of technology among women so that we can find each other, share ideas, and understand our common and diverse histories and experiences.

My Areas of Expertise:
Building social change organizations; creation of transformational peer learning experiences.

Hi Stephanie,

Welcome to PulseWire!

We are thrilled to have you as a new member in our thriving community of women who are lifting their voices in the name of empowerment and connecting across borders to make positive change for women everywhere! We are eager to learn more about you so that we can connect you with members who have similar interests or focus areas, and direct you to groups where you can join the solutions-driven dialogue on specific issues and subjects.

You mentioned that the widespread use of technology amongst women to connect and share is a vision of yours. That is also a vision we strive for. Several members who are currently engaged in empowering women through technology (mostly in Africa) are below and I encourage you to reach out to them for collaboration.

I also encourage you to browse through our directory of groups, join those that interest you and jump into the group dialogue.

If you have any questions about PulseWire or need help connecting, please do not hesitate to ask me. This is a safe space for women to share, connect, learn, support and grow in the empowerment process together. WELCOME!

Warm regards,
